Polar owl is a wise bird or harbinger of unhappiness

Endless white expanses, only here and there "decorated" with scanty bare shrubs and withered herbs - it is here that the polar owl lives - a bird possessing immaculate beauty and mysterious mystery.

Since ancient times people have attributed mystical abilities to this being . Thus, the ancestors of modern inhabitants of Egypt, America, China, India and Japan considered the owl a harbinger of death and various misfortunes. In many ancient religions the image of this bird was the emblem of the messenger from the afterlife or the prototype of the ruler of the dark kingdom.

In Christianity, the mysterious feathered predator was a symbol of desolation, darkness, sorrow, loneliness and bad news. To hear the cry of an owl or to see it with its own eyes foreshadowed the imminent death of loved ones. Due to the predominantly nocturnal way of life, the bird was endowed with demonic and sorcerous abilities. In addition, the mysterious creature was considered a keeper of treasures and various underground wealth, as well as a denouncer of debauchery.

No less appalling abilities were attributed to the owls in China. Thus, the inhabitants of the Celestial Empire believed that chicks of night predators acquire the ability to fly only after they have scratched or turned off their eyes to their parents. That is why the owls in China symbolized cruelty, fear, horror, evil and ingratitude.

Mind, as well as the ability to bring misfortunes, the owl was appropriated by people. The first were the English, who called it the old wise bird. Probably, extraordinary mental abilities to a bird have been ranked because of its eyes, thoughtful and huge, as two bottomless pots. In fact, these creatures are not particularly distinguished by an outstanding mind, although they can not be called stupid either.

Whatever people invent, owls are primarily the most fascinating creatures on the planet. A special beauty and the article is the white polar owl . Stunning coloring, charming big eyes and truly royal become more likely to relate it to the divine creation, rather than to the creation of dark forces.

This is a fairly large bird - the body weight can reach three kilograms, and the wingspan sometimes exceeds one and a half meters. Young individuals have motley plumage, more adult representatives of the genus of owls acquire a uniform snow-white color.

The polar owl inhabits the tundra and is rather a sedentary bird, although depending on local conditions (abundance of food, thickness of the snow cover), it can also migrate to more suitable places for living.

Interestingly, these birds do not really like to fly and sit on tall branches of trees. They are more inclined to walk about the snow-covered fields and look out for their prey from the hills and various land elevations.

The polar owl nests also on the ground, most often chooses dry relief slopes. The bird lays eggs with some interval, which sometimes reaches seven days. As a consequence, nestlings are inhabited by chicks of different ages - from those already fledged to still unhatched. Such an unusual way of laying eggs has significant advantages: more grown-up young individuals are able to warm their newly born sisters and brothers. Thus, the polar owl spends less time on incubation, I use it for more reasonable purposes - for the extraction of food. I must say, this approach to growing offspring is even more than rational.

Food for the northern birds is primarily lemmings. If the number of rodents is low, then owls are able to open the hunt for partridges and even Arctic Foxes. Unlike their southern counterparts, a polar owl can hunt both in the dark and in the light of day. That, in general, is not surprising, because a polar day in the tundra lasts about 6 months the same as the night.

Snow-white northern predator has sharp eyesight and hearing. She can notice the extraction in dense twilight for several tens of meters. And despite its awkwardness while walking, the owl attacks extremely fast, leaving no chance for the victim to save.
