Pills 'Pancreatin'

"Pancreatin" (Latin Pancreatin) is an enzyme-containing preparation, which is obtained from the pancreatic secretion formed in the pancreas of cows or pigs. Pancreatin is a non-crystalline light powder, usually a greyish or yellowish hue, it is poorly soluble in water, has a slightly specific odor. It occurs in many drugs that are used to improve the digestibility of food. Similar in properties with "Pankeatin" medicine is "Pancitrat".

Tablets "Pancreatin": instructions for use

Pharmacological properties. Tablets contain certain enzymes, such as alpha-amylase, trypsin, lipase, chymotrypsin. The medicine "Pancreatin" is used to facilitate digestion, since the substance contained in it helps to break down fats to fatty acids or glycerin, proteins to amino acids, starch to monosaccharides or dextrins. Tablets "Pancreatin" are covered with a protective coating, which prevents their splitting inside the stomach. Absorption of pancreatin occurs in an alkaline environment when it enters the small intestine.

The use of the drug "Pancreatin". It is used for violations of the natural work of the pancreas: Remkheld syndrome, cystic fibrosis, dyspepsia, chronic pancreatitis, pancreatectomy, cholecystitis, flatulence, gastritis, eating disorders, duodenitis, diarrhea, intestinal infections, various diseases of the liver and bile ducts. It is often used before diagnostic tests of the gastrointestinal tract, for example, before ultrasound or x-ray, in order to reduce the amount of gasses.

Dosage. The dose of the drug is determined by taking into account the age, as well as the degree of enzyme deficiency. The daily norm for an adult is about 150,000 units, for acute insufficiency 400,000 units, for children from 50,000 to 100,000 units. Lipase. The duration of treatment varies (can be used for several days, or for a couple of years). Tablets "Pancreatin" are taken during or before meals, can not be chewed. It is desirable to drink down with an alkaline liquid (fruit juice, water). The maximum concentration of pancreatin in the body comes after 35-40 minutes. With a particularly long-term use of the medicine, "Pancreatin" is recommended to additionally drink a course of preparations with iron. Before taking a consultation with a doctor is required.

Interaction. There was a strong decrease in the effectiveness of the drug when used together with antacids, which contain calcium carbonate or magnesium hydroxide. The absorption of iron deteriorates when taken together with iron-containing preparations.

Contraindications. Tablets "Pancreatin" are contraindicated in people with hypersensitivity or individual intolerance to pork, in the presence of acute pancreatitis, one of the hepatitis or with acute forms of chronic pancreatitis. Tablets "Pancreatin" should be used very carefully during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, as the result may be unpredictable.

Special recommendations. In the presence of cystic fibrosis is not recommended to take more than 10,000 units per day. Also the probability of constipation in children is high.

Side effects. With strict adherence to dose, side effects are very rare (about 1% of cases). The main side effects are: diarrhea, constipation, nausea, discomfort, abdominal pain, perianal irritations. Sometimes there are redness on the skin. If the drug is taken for a long time, hyperuricosuria, an increase in the amount of uric acid in the blood plasma, can be observed.
