Necklace of Venus - an unpleasant "decoration"

Despite its nice sounding name, the "necklace of Venus" is a symptom of a very serious disease - syphilis, the most commonly transmitted sexually. All its manifestations on the skin are called syphilis. A person can get infected through syphilis, not covered with skin on top. The course of the disease is very long. He distinguishes incubation (about 1 month), primary (about 6 months), secondary (up to 15 years) and tertiary periods. With this disease, internal organs, joints, bones, and the nervous system are affected.

The Venus Necklace is the numerous depigmented spots located in the neck and shoulders, which are syphilitic leukoderma. It is a sign of a secondary period of syphilis. Necklace of Venus appears 6-7 months after infection with a neglected disease. It is preceded by "hard chancre" - the first sign of the disease that occurs at the site of infection in the body (oral cavity, genital organs). Shankr is a painless, painless ulcer that disappears itself 3 to 6 weeks after the onset. If at this stage there is no timely treatment, the disease will progress rapidly, and after a few months, characteristic spots will appear. The Venus Necklace is located on the side and back of the neck. It has the appearance of a rash consisting of numerous light round spots about 1 cm in diameter, which are surrounded by darker skin. This barely noticeable rash does not hurt, so many people do not notice it.

Unlike the primary period of syphilis, which can be cured by certain penicillin drugs, the emergent necklace of Venus (the secondary period) indicates the need for more powerful treatment, during which injections of penicillin-containing drugs are made during the month. Only after a complete cure and long follow-up of the doctor for the patient can a person be removed from the register. If a patient with syphilis had sex during illness, all of his partners should undergo appropriate treatment.

There are many diseases, the symptoms of which are red spots on the neck. They can be a natural or functional reaction of the body with certain diseases and environmental conditions. If the spots appear not to last several days, itch and flake, you should immediately contact an allergist and dermatologist. Such spots can appear in infectious diseases, allergies, hepatitis, ring-shaped erythema, hives, meningitis, systemic lupus erythematosus, atopic dermatitis, seborrheic eczema and many others.

To establish a diagnosis, you may need not only an examination, but also a series of tests. Most often, skin rashes occur only after the treatment of the underlying disease. Self-treatment of red spots of unknown nature is not effective and extremely dangerous, since the main cause of their appearance may remain untreated and will progress further.

Often, the neck appears red spots after drinking alcohol. In this case, the therapist's consultation is also necessary, since such a symptom may indicate liver problems and metabolic disorders.

Another unpleasant manifestation of a violation of the correct functioning of the human body is the pigmentation of the neck. If there are violations in the glands of the internal secretion (gonads, adrenals), with diseases of the biliary tract and liver, prolonged intoxication with various chronic infections (malaria, tuberculosis), excessive amounts of melanin (dark pigment) accumulate on the neck, face, hands. Such spots appear when the vitamin balance and metabolism, the pituitary tumor, Graves' disease, and after a long reception of some medicines: quinine, amidopyrine, silver nitrate, sulfanilamide preparations are disturbed. In any case, when pigmentation spots appear on the neck, you should consult a doctor who can find out the cause of their appearance and prescribe the necessary treatment. A single recommendation for everyone who has dark spots on the skin is to reduce exposure to direct sunlight.
