Purulent otitis media

Purulent otitis is a purulent inflammatory process that affects the mucous membrane of the tympanic cavity. In this disease, all departments that make up the middle ear are involved (in one way or another) into catarrhal inflammation .

Purulent otitis is a very common disease. Its course can be easy or, on the contrary, stormy. In the latter case, purulent otitis provokes a severe degree of inflammatory reaction in the body. It should be noted that, regardless of the course, the disease can leave an adhesive process, which is accompanied by a hearing loss that is difficult to treat.

Acute purulent otitis is especially frequent in children under the age of three. At the same time, the disease is characterized by a less severe onset and a sluggish course. In older age, recurrence of the disease may occur.

Purulent otitis, as a rule, occurs due to a decrease in general and local resistance and infection in the tympanum. Often the saprophytic microflora of the pharynx penetrates into the cavity. In this case, inflammation does not develop with normal general and local reactivity. With a strong penetration or ingestion of highly virulent microflora, even in a small amount, acute inflammation develops.

Often infections penetrate through the auditory tube. The cavities of the middle ear do not have a microbial microflora, which is determined by the protective function of the mucous tube. In this area, the production of mucus, which has an antimicrobial effect, occurs. With the help of the villi of the ciliated epithelium, the mucous secretion is constantly moving towards the nasopharynx. Penetration of microflora into the tympanic cavity occurs as a result of disturbance of the protective functions of the epithelium in the auditory tube. Infringements arise at various infectious illnesses, sharp exacerbations of local character, chronic inflammatory processes in the top respiratory ways.

In rare cases, infection penetrates through the damaged cavity of the membrane due to trauma.

Children's otitis

The disease can occur due to overheating or hypothermia of the child. To the reasons for the development of otitis should include and weakened immunity, and improper feeding. It should be noted that when there is a slight cold there is a risk of inflammation of the middle ear.

As a rule, the inflammatory process in children at a small age is characterized by the suddenness of the onset. The child can fall asleep completely healthy, and wake up in the middle of the night from pain and pain. At the same time it can vomit, the temperature can rise to forty degrees. In addition, the baby can diarrhea, difficulty breathing, headache. He always touches the sick ear, but someone else does not give him a touch.

If signs of inflammation are found, consult a doctor immediately. The specialist will examine the tympanic membrane. To reduce temperature and reduce pain, the doctor can prescribe paracetamol or another drug, as well as special drops that have analgesic effects. Their names do not list, because self-treatment in this case is extremely dangerous.

If the pain does not disappear on the fourth day, you must call the doctor again. In such cases, the administration of antibiotics is possible. In this case, such drugs should appoint a doctor. Do not treat the child yourself.

If there is fever and purulent discharge from the ear, the doctor may prescribe a little intervention. During the operation, removal of pus accumulates in the area behind the tympanic membrane. After carrying out such an operation, as a rule, the condition improves.
