Most popular thrillers - rating, description and reviews

According to the opinion of numerous art critics, thriller films began to be in demand in the second half of the last century. In many respects the development of the genre was promoted by the works of the cult director Alfred Hitchcock. It was from his "pen" came out the first popular thrillers. Subsequently, many directors became followers and imitators of the work of the famous director.

Of course, not all movie thrillers claim the title of these masterpieces. Popular pictures of this genre, which deserve the most positive feedback from the audience, I would like to consider in our article.

"Shining" (1980)

So, let's start reviewing popular thrillers. According to the reviews of the audience, the list of the most outstanding films of the genre represented includes the tape of the famous director Stanley Kubrick - "Shining". The film, which was released on wide screens in the far 1980, still occupies the highest positions in the ratings on the sites devoted to the cinema. And this despite the whole mass of negative reviews from the film critics, which massively distributed in the year of the premiere of the presented tape.

It is worth noting that the film contains almost all the "tracing paper" used by the writer Stephen King in his novels. Here there is an old mansion, in which the characters in the picture are isolated. The main character is a writer, and several secondary characters are clairvoyant. However, the presence of numerous "stamps" did not prevent the film "Shining" from deserving the status of one of the greatest thrillers in the history of cinematography. After all, it was such a loud title the tape was awarded, according to a survey of the authoritative British edition of Sight & Sound, conducted among filmmakers and film critics.

«In the spotlight» (2016)

Considering the popular thriller films, one can not ignore the main nominee of the Oscar award of last year - "In the spotlight". The picture tells about a journalistic investigation, probably the most notorious sexual scandal in the history of the United States, connected with cases of pedophilia in the Catholic Church. True story so touched the audience that the tape not only received the most positive feedback, but also won awards in a wide range of prestigious nominations, including earned the title of "Best Film of the Year."

«The Moon of 2112» (2009)

According to reviews of a wide audience, the list of the most popular thrillers includes a picture of director Duncan Jones called "The Moon 2112". At one time, the authoritative British edition of the Times called the tape the best psychological thriller in several decades, as the rhythm of events is competently borne out, the melancholic tone inherent in the genre is respected, and attention is paid to details that are completely untypical for science fiction. Other reviews also mention a comparison of the film with such cult works as "Space Odyssey", "Solaris", "Man Who Fell to Earth".

"The Hitcher" (1986)

If we talk about the popular horror-thrillers, the highest praise deserves a highly controversial film "The Hitler" directed by Robert Harmon. The success of the tape was promoted by using the real story as the basis of the story. Among other things, the film launched a whole series of so-called "road thrillers" that taught drivers to be careful about the choice of those who ask them to drive.

It is worth noting that after the premiere of "The Hitler" immediately acquired the status of a cult film not only in the United States, but also in the USSR. To his success, the picture owes much to the magnificent game of Rutger Hauer. The latter so organically fit into the image of the maniac that his partners on the set felt genuine fear when communicating with the artist in the intervals between work on the film.

The Seven (1995)

Let's continue to review the most popular thrillers. Without any doubt, the right to be in our rating deserves a gloomy, sometimes mystical and frightening movie of David Fincher - "Seven." This tense story tells of two detectives who are trying to get on the trail of a serial killer that chooses their victims on the principle of biblical mortal sins.

The director of the film showed himself as a brilliant master of giving an exciting, disturbing consciousness of the plot. In turn, film critics distinguish the tape from a common series of popular thrillers for excellent camera and director work, the inimitable play of the leading roles of Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman, as well as musical accompaniment.

"Silence of the Lambs" (1991)

Considering popular thrillers, it is worth saying a few words about one of the best, in the opinion of viewers and critics, an action-packed tape in the history of cinema. At one time, the picture "Silence of the Lambs" raised Jonathan Demme to the status of an outstanding contemporary director. It is noteworthy that the performer of the role of the maniac Hannibal Lecter - the famous actor Anthony Hopkins lit up in the picture for only 16 minutes from the general timekeeping. Nevertheless, this did not allow him to become the best actor of the year according to the British Film Academy, and also to receive the Oscar.

"The Island of the Damned" (2010)

Undoubtedly, places in the ranking, where the most popular thrillers are presented, deserves a psychological tape "The Island of the Damned". Numerous admirers of the genre, like authoritative critics, call this outstanding work of director Martin Scorsese truly genius. And it's not surprising, because during the movie you can get the impression that the performers of the main roles are not just trying to best reveal the character of their characters, but their life really does.

The Beginning (2010)

I would also like to mention the popular thriller-fighters. One of the best films in this genre is the sci-fi tape "The Beginning" directed by Christopher Nolan. After the release of the picture on wide screens, critics' reviews were truly enthusiastic. One of the most influential experts in the film industry, Roger Ebert decided to put the tape to the highest score possible. The latter praised not only an intricate plot and an unpredictable finale, but also an extremely emotional emotional component of the narrative.

"Fatal Number 23" (2007)

The presented film is noteworthy not only for non-standard storyline and increased attention to detail inherent in this thriller, but also unusual for a wide audience role Jim Carrey, who had previously been considered exclusively as a comedian. According to the story, in the hands of the main character gets a book called "Number 23". Having become acquainted with the novel, whose plot as two drops of water is similar to his life, the latter begins to see the coded number in all aspects of its existence. What is it - paranoia or a mysterious number really carries a terrible secret?

"American Psycho" (2000)

We conclude to review the popular thrillers. The list would be finished with the film by the director Mary Harron "The American Psycho". This horrifying story with elements of black comedy, based on the novel by the same name by the writer Bret Easton, tries to encourage the viewer to reflect on what aspects of our existence are in fact the highest values of life.

It is noteworthy that after the release on the wide screens this thrilling thriller received quite an ambiguous feedback from the audience. Leading film critics rated the film for a solid four, at the same time, noting the excellent performance of the leading role of Christian Bale. The author of the original novel Bret Easton also expressed his opinion on the cinematic creation. The latter insisted that the ambiguity of the narrative is revealed in the film only in his finale, and this, in the writer's opinion, only confuses the viewer. Nevertheless, the film "American Psycho" has been on top of the ranking of the best psychological thrillers for more than a decade and a half.
