"Mazda Bongo" - a story through generations
For the first time the minivan "Mazda Bongo" was born in the distant 1966 year. At that time it was a rear-wheel drive car with very modest technical characteristics at the present time. The machine was equipped with a small petrol engine brand F800 with a working volume of 0.782 liters. After some time, Japanese engineers launched a new Mazda Bongo minivan with one-liter F1000 engines. At the same time, the first all-wheel drive modification of the already popular car with 4 doors appeared.
Second generation production
Unfortunately, the Japanese minivan had one significant minus - a low resistance to corrosion. These machines could be used for no more than 5 years, after which the entire body was completely covered with rust. Therefore, "Mazda Bongo" needed many technical improvements to this part of the car. Thus, at the end of the 1970s (to be more precise, in 1977), the company developed and launched a new, second generation of trucks, into serial production. Thanks to a well thought out advertising campaign, the novelty was the sales leader among all cars of its class. Soon to the old 1-liter engine were added three units with volumes of 1.3, 1.4, and 1.6 liters. The technical specification "Mazda Bongo" was on top.
Third Generation Production
The next generation of minivans was released in 1983. Legendary "Mazda Bongo" has significantly changed its appearance, as well as technical characteristics. This generation of machines was the first on which a diesel engine was installed. And there were two such motors. Installed on the "Mazda Bongo" diesel with a working volume of 2.0 and 2.2 liters. Three months later, in the same year 1983, the plant first produced a long wheelbase modification of the car. It was Mazda Bongo Brownie. This generation of trucks was produced for a whole 16 years. For all this period the Japanese concern managed to develop several more modifications of Mazda Bongo, including cars on the electric drive. Also this generation was first equipped with automatic transmissions, which at that time were an extreme rarity on the roads.
Development of the 4th generation
In 1999, the production of new minibuses and light trucks called "Mazda Bongo" started. When creating a new generation of the legendary "Bongo" engineers paid great attention to the safety of the novelty - for the first time this car was equipped with several airbags, as well as an anti-lock system of the wheels.
Unfortunately, last year the management of the concern announced the termination of the mass production of Mazda Bongo. The fourth generation was the last generation produced in Japan.
