Bus of Kurgan Automobile Plant - KAVZ-3976: description, photo and technical characteristics

Soviet buses produced by the Kurgan Automobile Plant with the index 3976 have a long enough history, which is estimated to be almost twenty years of experience. The first model debuted in 1989. After that, the manufacturer carried out a number of upgrades. Technical equipment was improved. Initially, the car was positioned as a small-sized hooded bus, and subsequently there was no change in this plan. It was intended for making routes both around the city and outside it. Known to all Soviet quality allowed for many years to operate this machine without much capital repair costs.

If compared with modern standards, the bus KavZ-3976 is much inferior to the new models. However, this drawback completely covers the cost of the car. Initially, production was maximally cheaper, which subsequently influenced the formation of prices for sales. Model 3976 is currently not manufactured. Its production was canceled in 2007.

Technical moments 1989-2004.

As it was said before, during 18 years of assembly some upgrades of the KAVZ-3976 car were carried out. Its technical characteristics are not very impressive. In order to reduce costs, the manufacturer preferred to install the bus, let's say, not the newest technologies. However, it is impossible to call it completely unfit for operation. He coped well with the tasks.

In 1989, the bus was equipped with a domestic engine ZMZ-513. This model was even considered primitive at that time. It is a simple V-shaped carburetor device with 8 valves, which are located at a right angle. The maximum power threshold that this power unit could produce is stopped at 125 liters. from. The maximum speed limit did not exceed 90 km / h. Over the years, the engine has proven itself reliable under all conditions.

Modernization of 2005

The new power unit model KavZ-3976 received only 16 years later, in 2005. It was a diesel unit MMZ D-245.7. Its technical characteristics have been slightly improved. First of all, the manufacturer worked on the aspect of environmental standards, now the engine complies with the European standards EURO-2. With regard to technical nuances, the power factor decreased by almost 3 units. (122.4 hp), high-speed, on the contrary, increased by 5 units, in a new modification the bus could accelerate to 95 km / h.

The chassis was borrowed from the model GAZ-33074, and not only it. It can be called the ancestor of the KAVZ-3976, as the bus was equipped with the same mechanical transmission, designed for 5 speeds, the engine and other elements of the equipment. It is worth paying attention to the electrician. It is problematic to find something new here, everything also came from GAZ-33074. But with one exception: the new car had a highlight of the saloon, which had not previously been used.

Dimensions

At the time of the release of the model 3976 all Soviet buses were almost identical. This similarity was seen not only in technical equipment, but also externally. The dimensions of this car can not be called large, but they are enough for the transportation of employees of institutions, as well as for use in the role of urban transport (until 2000). Currently, these machines have remained only on the balance of some state-owned enterprises.

So, let's move on to the dimensions. The length of the body reaches almost 7 m, and to be more precise, it is 6915 mm. The width is not very large - 2380 mm, height - 3030 mm. Bus 3976 could smoothly make traffic on country roads thanks to a considerable ground clearance of 265 mm. The passenger compartment has 21 seats, but the total capacity is 28.

Problem places

The first flaw that immediately catches your eye is the presence of only one door. It was necessary to make a lot of efforts to close it. Over time, the mechanism came into disrepair, so in the cabin there were always drafts that penetrated through the tightly closed door. When driving, she made rumbling sounds, which, of course, did not increase the level of comfort.

Modifications

KavZ-3976-53 was mainly used for transportation of children. It differed in length: in this modification the platform was increased to 8470 mm. The presence of the second door was his main advantage. Since the main task of the bus is transportation of children, the factory installed special equipment that was responsible for the speed of movement. It did not allow the driver to accelerate the vehicle more than 60 km / h. The installation of a modern ABS system has significantly increased the level of car safety.

KavZ-3976-011 is a model operating on gas. It was designed to reduce fuel costs. The Italian company was engaged in the production of the gas installation. Thanks to this modernization, the bus could make trips for long distances without additional fueling. This opportunity appeared after the installation of a kit consisting of 2 cylinders of 180 liters.

KAVZ 3976-020 is distinguished by improved cabin characteristics. It used a quality insulation, which allowed to operate the bus in areas with low air temperature. Modern heating systems were installed on these models.
