Klementyeva Gora: how to get there? A photo

Our ancestors said that a man was born to go straight, and he could only dream of flying. However, this is not so. A person has the right to realize his dream. To soar through the currents of the wind, to touch the clouds - everything is possible, it is only necessary to set off on the way to the Crimea to the Uzun-Syrt mountain.

The point of observation of the whole peninsula

Mount Klementyev (Crimea) is located near Koktebel. It is generally accepted that Soviet gliding was born in this place. They named this mountain in honor of the glider-tester Peter Klementyev. He died at this point, when he experienced the glider on 11.09.1924.

Klementyevka mountain is created by nature. By itself, it divides the Crimean northern steppes and the mountainous part of the peninsula.

What is Uzun-Syrt

In distant and ancient times the territory of the present Crimea belonged to the Turks. It was they who gave the name Uzun-Syrt. In translation, this means "long ridge" or "back".

What is a mountain

Outwardly, Klementyev's mountain resembles a wave that froze, or a red-and-bluish elongated shaft in the shape of a horseshoe. Its length is about eight kilometers. Geologists studied it in a section and came to the conclusion that the ridge is similar to a multilayer pie consisting of limestone and marl. For centuries these rocks have been weathered and washed away. Thus, the mountain acquired this species. The height of the ridge above sea level is less than 300 meters, and over the valley and even less - about 200 meters. Mount Klementyev (Koktebel) is low, but a lot of emotions are waiting for flight lovers right here.

Further Uzun-Syrt turns into a sequence of three large hills:

  • Koklyuk, or the Blue Peak;
  • Orta-Both;
  • Sary-Kaya.

The bizarre and stone Koklyuk towers over the village of Nanikovo, where a large number of species of grass grow. On the hill there is a gazebo, with it a stunning view of the mountains and the Black Sea. If you go by car, you will see it from the highway Feodosiya - Koktebel. In the fourth century BC the pass was guarded by the guardians of the Bosporus of Kimeri.

Near the hill Sary-Kaya not so long ago was found the ancient and destroyed Scythian city of the second century BC. He was rather big. Until now, tourists can see with their own eyes that the town was well fortified, in addition to residential areas, there was also a fortress with an acropolis on a hill. Archaeologists conducted research. Thanks to the excavations, they were able to find various workshops, pits intended for grain storage. Also, various objects of everyday life were found: dishes, mirrors from bronze, ornaments, etc. Near the town there was also a so-called cemetery. Burials were performed by Scythians in barrows.

The western slope of the Sary-Kaya Hill was also once admired by the most ancient people. Near the source for 8 millennium BC lived a man who was carried to the Neolithic Age. And here the archaeologists had a lot of work.

Klementyevka Mountain has a perfectly flat and regular peak. The best view of the Crimean peninsula opens exactly from this point. On a clear sunny day from the mountain, you can see several cities and significant places such as Karadag, Koktebel, Ordzhonikidze, Feodosia, the burial place of the poet M. Voloshin and Cape Chameleon.

Legend of the second name

A hundred years ago, the mountain was called Uzun-Syrt. What happened, why did the mountain give a different name? Who is Klementyev?

This sad story happened back in the distant years of the USSR. Young and talented Peter Klementyev was the son of an Astrakhan worker. He referred to the cadre military, he was a participant in the Civil War in the rank of a pilot. After the battles, he was sent to Sevastopol as an instructor in the flight business. Later Klementyev came to study at the Moscow Air Force Academy. Here Peter fell in love with gliding. His passion for hobby was so strong and bright that he independently created his own flying machine and gave him the name "Komsomolets". After some time the pilot brought him to the Crimean peninsula to participate in the All-Union competitions.

Pyotr Klementyev made 22 flights on his vehicle, but the 23rd turned out to be fatal for a young man. The aircraft crashed. The last 23 flights ended with the death of a young glider pilot. At that time Peter was not even thirty years old. In love with the sky, flights, heights and expanses, Peter Klementyev died as a young Icarus - the hero of the ancient Greek myth. In honor of him, the mountain got its name.

Monument to the gliders

After 50 years on the mountain Uzun-Syrt erected a monument to amateurs and professional gliders. The monument is a seven-meter stela, which was crowned by a model of an airplane - a glider A-13, rotating around its axis like a weathercock. Attached and a plaque with the inscription of the academician and general designer O.K. Antonov that as long as the streams will ascend, people will aspire to fly.

How to go to the mountain?

After you enter the settlement Podgornoye, do not miss the asphalt road to the right, leading to the mountain. This is the only turn, covered with asphalt in Podgorny. Next, you need to drive by car to Koktebel and to the village of Ordzhonikidze.

The path from Feodosia is short - only 12 kilometers. From Koktebel the path is even shorter - 7 kilometers. From the direction of the highway Klementyev mountain is visible.

Tips for beginners

Klementyev mountain is ideal for flights. Paragliding is the most positive sport, that's why we go there for positive emotions and freedom.

On the mountain there are two slopes: north and south. The first slope is more flat. Its difference is about 90 meters. The hovering space is one and a half to two kilometers. In this zone a wide speaker is formed, if there is no warm-up, then the speaker is rather weak. A good warm-up contributes to a set of two kilometers. For lovers of route flights, the northern side is ideal.

Let's talk about the southern slope. Its drop is about 250 meters. It is steeper than the north. The flight zone is about 4 km. A strong speaker is possible without warm-up. In the calm weather on this slope is also unpredictable.

The starting conditions are good on all sides of the mountain. But in the calm start from the north beginners are more difficult. Landing is easy even for a beginner on the north side. At the southern slope it is possible only at the base of the mountain.

How to spend your free time in non-flying weather?

The mountain Klementyev is unique. You need to make a photo for memory. Capturing the apparatus of other pilots will also be useful.
