Hunting with laika on marten: secrets and tricks. Where the marten lives

Hunting from time immemorial was a male law and a male privilege. A dangerous, demanding maximum effort, vital for the livelihood of a tribe, clan or family - this was thousands of years ago. Today it is a hobby, entertainment and only occasionally work. Why did hunting instead of hard work become an exciting adventure? The first - the use of firearms, the second - the breeding of special breeds of dogs, which greatly facilitate the work of the hunter.

Hunting with the likes

Laiki is one of the most versatile hunting breeds. She is hardy and strong, not afraid of water, even ice. Thick coat protects the dog from both sharp branches and teeth of dangerous game - for example, hunting with laika on marten is safer than with dogs of short-haired breeds. Some hunters blame the willfulness of these northern dogs - sometimes they refuse to carry game to the owner or simply do not fully understand what is required of them. This is only partly true. Laiki really require more attention, their training needs to start from a very early age. But trained in a certain way, they do not allow themselves whims.

Who can you hunt with a husky

  1. At the bird. They are used for hunting both for waterfowl and for "land". When dressing, special attention should be given to the accurate adoption of the shot game (grab by the mouth), because puppies sometimes begin to roughly ruffle prey.
  2. At the bear. Bear cubs require special training. Since hunting for a bear is perhaps the most dangerous in our country, then the requirements to the qualities of dogs are also the highest. The task of the four-legged assistants in such a hunt is not to bark the beast, and especially not to tuck in, but to sit down, that is, grabbing it by the thighs with its mouth, to force it to sit on the ground. This gives the hunter the opportunity to make an unimpeded shot.
  3. Hunting for an elk. In this case, the dog needs to learn coolness and patience - when you go to the beast, husky should not rush at him and bite him. Their task is to bark out a bounty hunter with their own bark, or, if the elk "broke", accompany it at a safe distance, constantly giving voice and not losing sight of the animal.

There is another kind of "catching", about which in this article we will tell in more detail. It is hunting with a husky on a marten - an animal with a very valuable fur. Despite the small size of the beast, such a trophy is considered serious and prestigious.

Where to find this beast?

In order to get a marten, you need to understand how to look for it. So, where does the marten live? Most often this small predator is on the upper tier of the forest, extremely reluctantly descending below, and on the ground and at all he descends only for the sake of hunting.

Despite the modest size of the marten, it is a bloodthirsty, ferocious, fast and skillful predator. His victims are grouse, black grouse, hares and also almost everyone who is smaller in size. In the absence of other game, she tracks down even the vole mice! An interesting fact - marten is a big "sweet tooth", and just like a bear, it "borrows" honey from bees.

The marten does not bypass the human habitation either. It is mostly attracted to chicken coops and cells with rabbits. If the owners did not properly protect their farm buildings, then by the morning they just do not count a pair of chicken or rabbit.

The correct methods of mining this predator

Hunting with a husky on a marten is good because this breed of dogs is genetically adapted to harassing and barking a fur-bearing animal. The hunting season for a small predator begins in October - at this time the animal has the most beautiful and thick fur.

You need to get out early in the morning. Excellent, if before the hunt a small snowball fell, then the husky will be easier to find the trail. After the dog took the trail, it goes on it until it detects the animal. As we remember, most often the animal is on the upper tier of trees, and here just in place is the distinct flair of this breed, which makes it possible to detect the animal even in the thickest thickets.

After the marten is discovered, the husky beckons the hunter in a voice. Most often, small predators do not wait for the arrow's approach, but begin to walk away from the dog that scuffs them through the trees. Here begins the most difficult task - not to miss a rapidly moving animal. Additional complicating factors are the small size of the animal, its mobility and cunning, it can dramatically change the direction of movement and hide in the thick crown of the tree. As we see, hunting with husky on martens is not an easy task.

The most unpleasant option is when the animal is hiding in someone's hollow or in another, inaccessible for a direct view of the place. In this case, it is necessary to carefully kick or scratch on the trunk to drive the animal out of its shelter. The main thing in this business is not to overdo it, since too much frightened marten will instantly flee into the distance, and everything will have to start again.

In exceptional cases, the animal can descend to the ground, hiding under a fallen trunk, in a heap of brushwood or other ground cover. This is the most difficult case for a hunter. Here he can only rely on the flair of his four-legged helper - if he is well-trained, then, most likely, he will find a couch.

Slightly more difficult than usual, is hunting for marten with a husky at night. For the dog, the main "search engine" is the scent, so the darkness delivers the main difficulties to the hunter.

How to teach a dog this kind of hunting

Like for every hunting "specialization", the husky mustard must be trained for the gon of marten. Preparation should start at 2-3 months of age. The puppy must be driven into the forest, preferably not in a thick one - it will be easier to observe its actions. In the forest, you need to release him from the leash and give him a walk, explore the neighborhood. Starting from 15-20 minutes, the walk time gradually increases to 3 or more hours. After the first adaptation is completed, the puppy is taught the search.

Begin with the simplest - the hunter walks curvilinearly, and the puppy must follow him, not falling behind. Gradually the speed of moving and changing direction increases, complicating the task of the dog. Then the hunter begins to hide from the four-legged friend, giving the chance to find him. The basic rules in these exercises - the dog should always achieve a positive result, and every success should be encouraged by a gentle word, ironing, a piece of treats. If this is done constantly, then the dog will perform its work much more efficiently. Hunting for marten with a gun, along with a husky, is a joint effort, and its success depends on the concerted efforts of both miners, both biped and quadruped.

When the dog is strong enough and grows up, it starts to be pulled even more seriously - you can chase a beast or a bird, bark them. After a while you can start shooting "from under the dog," but you need to be careful, since a young dog can be very frightened of a close shot, which in the future will negatively affect her hunting talents. It is best to start shooting at a distance so that the four-footed helper is accustomed to the sound of a firearm.

The final stage of preparation is hunting for marten in the winter. By this time the dog must know the basic commands, be accustomed to the sounds of the shot, is accustomed to barking and pursuing the beast. Tracking and shooting the beast, you must carefully monitor the fact that the dog does not ruffle the prey, but for young and temperamental hounds it happens all the time. At the command "it is impossible", she must quit prey. After this, the dog must be praised and rewarded with a delicacy.

How can you achieve the best result in training

The young dog still does not know all the subtleties of his craft, cunnings and tricks of animals. Therefore, for a better training of the "teenager" you can take it with you to the hunt along with experienced huskies. Watching them, he will learn the correct behavior. But such training should not last more than a season, otherwise the dog will not learn independence and determination.

Laika is best trained in the same region where she is supposed to track down game. Hunting in Siberia and hunting in the Leningrad region are two different things. The presence of other animals, the density of undergrowth and snow cover - all this is of no small importance.

Habitat of marten

Where can you find this predatory animal? Practically throughout the European part of Russia. Hunting in Siberia is also possible, although not in all regions. Depending on the region, the subspecies of this animal are distinguished: Murmansk, Kuban, northern, western, central and Urals martens.

What you need to know for a successful hunt for marten

Not only should the dog be trained "catching" a certain beast, but also its master. Hunting for marten with a gun is not an easy task. Therefore, it is necessary to study the theoretical part - read the literature, watch the video, chat with experienced hunters. In the practical part, it will be superfluous to go hunting as an observer or simply an arrow.

For the dog, the master's confidence is very important - if he directs it with a firm hand, is consistent in his decisions, then the dog will be calmer and better perform his task.

How else can you hunt marten?

There are many ways to extract the beast without the help of four-legged friends. One of these methods involves the use of snares - traps of various designs. Hunting for marten with self-weapons involves the use of traps - they can be placed both in the places of passage of the animal, and in the place of nesting. Traps must be placed above the ground in such a way that the animal can not reach it with its paws, otherwise the frustrated prey will simply run away. For successful catching with a trap, you need to know where the marten lives, and where it normally feeds.

Now you know how the marten hunting is going on.
