Front shock absorber strut: device and varieties

Modern cars are able to provide maximum comfort to the driver and his passengers while driving. Their suspension so effectively absorbs blows that in the cabin they hardly feel. Many people have become accustomed to a comfortable movement, but few of us have thought that it provides the car with such softness. The answer lies in the running gear, where one of the most important parts is located - the shock absorber. It is this seemingly primitive detail that takes on all the load, effort and blows that are transmitted from the wheels when you hit the pits.

In fact, the design of the front shock absorbers does not differ from the rear ones. Even the load they perceive the same. It does not matter where the shock absorber is installed - in front, behind - it will still provide softening of impacts when driving a car.

The front pillar of the shock absorber, however, like the rear, has the following components:

  • Housing with fastening tab;
  • A piston with compression and recoil valves and rings;
  • Cylinder and spring;
  • Sealing elements;
  • A shock absorber rod complete with a fastening eye and a casing;

Varieties

At the moment there are three types of shock absorber racks. These are oil, gas-filled and gas-oil.

The first type of shock absorber is the most soft and affordable. Basically, such devices are equipped with family city cars. The gas-filled and gas-oil front strut of the shock absorber is designed for machines with a sporty bias, so they are often classified in one category. As for comfort, such details provide less mitigation of impacts, rather than oil. But at the same time their design and composition exclude the possibility of boiling oil. This is achieved by the presence of nitrogen gas. On the pits, they are very rigid and are mainly operated on flat roads. And since in the CIS countries such a road cloth - rather, a fairy tale, all domestic cars are supplied with oil shock absorbers. And this applies not only to cars, but also trucks.

On average, the oil front shock absorber stands 30-40 percent cheaper than the gas. This is due to the great demand for them. By the way, the gas strut front shock absorber, in addition to its rigidity, provides a greater load on the hub and supports. Therefore, rarely any driver buys them on their cars.

Life time

As a rule, the front shock absorber post can serve 60-80 thousand kilometers without problems. But this is possible only on the condition of good and smooth roads - for example, on foreign motorways. In Russia, these details live in 2 times less - from 30 to 40 thousand kilometers. At the end of this period, it is not repair, but the replacement of the front shock absorber strut. If you do not do it in time, the load will increase not only on the ball joint and the hub, but also on all other suspension parts. Disregarding the replacement of shock absorbers, you not only sacrifice comfort, but also risk getting into an emergency situation, since the racks are interconnected with the braking system.
