Estonia attractions: for different preferences, interests and tastes

Of all the medieval cities that are partially preserved in some countries of central and eastern Europe, the capital of Estonia is of greatest interest to travelers interested in sights - historical, cultural and architectural. Modern Tallinn is not much different from the city that was several centuries ago - it has an ancient part (Old Town), where the medieval layout is preserved. It consists of two independent parts, one of which is the Lower City, which is still surrounded by remains of defensive constructions of the 13th-16th centuries.

Modern Estonia offers its guests a variety of attractions. Its capital is a city with an ancient past and a large number of architectural monuments dating from the time of construction to the 14th-17th centuries (the Town Hall Square - Raekoi Square, the town hall with the weather vane Old Thomas, the famous symbol of Tallinn, the Gothic churches and one of the highest in Europe spire of the Church of Olewiste). Connoisseurs of history and its monuments will not be able to ignore the extraordinary beauty of the fragments of walls erected around the city in the XIII-XVI centuries, visit such picturesque and historically significant objects as the tower of thick Margarita erected at the end of 1529, the tower Kiik-in-de- Kek (in translation - "look into the kitchen"), the construction of which continued in the XV-XVII centuries. Thick Margarita is interesting not only from the point of view of architecture - today it houses an exposition of the Maritime Museum, where every guest can see the unusual beautiful models of old ships, such a delicate work, which is not the case in all of Europe.

Often the objects of excursions around Tallinn are the famous "Three Sisters" - three houses built in close proximity to each other, which in the 15th century belonged to three sisters. But in the capital of Estonia there are interesting sights for modern tourists, not only from a cultural point of view. For example, the Viru Gate, with two high towers that open the door to Viru Street, along which there are wonderful souvenir shops, as well as the market of local craftsmen. Very interesting and unusual is the street Luhike Yalg or "short leg", leading to the picturesque Town Hall Square, which has an original second name - "street-staircase", which is connected with the steps located along its entire length.

However, Estonia keeps its sights not only in the ancient streets of the ancient quarters of its capital - in another part of Tallinn there is a magnificent Kadriorg - a palace and park ensemble in the Baroque style, built in 1718-1725. The current residence of the President of this country, Kadriorg, is still called by some old-timers the palace of Peter the Great, in honor of the great Russian tsar, who in due time presented this ensemble to his wife. In the suburbs of Tallinn for tourists from different countries also have a lot of interesting, although the buildings here are not medieval, but rather eclectic. For true connoisseurs of art, Estonia offers attractions such as the Estonian Drama Theater and the Estonia Theater (designed by Astrid Lindgren), museums (in Tallinn alone there are more than 13 of them), monasteries and, of course, various entertainment facilities, perhaps , To classical sights not related, but very interesting for many tourists.

Separately, it should be said that this country is one of the largest educational centers in Eastern Europe. Here you can visit the remarkable conservatory, visit the Tallinn Academy of Sciences, in all its institutes, in the botanical garden and many other scientific institutions, which, no doubt, will interest any civilized tourist.

Thus, it can be noted: Tallinn and all of Estonia's sights represent the most diverse - for different preferences, interests and tastes.
