Domodedovo Cemetery: how to get to, burial list

Cemeteries are an integral part of the municipal infrastructure of the city. It is impossible to find a single meaningful settlement, next to which there would not be a cemetery. And large megacities are surrounded by them from all sides. There are many of them around Moscow. Let's take a closer look at what Domodedovo cemetery is.

From the history

This object of the Moscow municipal infrastructure has existed for more than a quarter of a century. The Domodedovo cemetery was founded by the Moscow City Council in 1984. Then the first graves appeared on the territory intended for the cemetery. But for mass graves, it was discovered only after three years, in December 1987. The Domodedovo cemetery is located in the south of the Moscow region, not far from the city of Domodedovo, in honor of which it received its name. Today it is one of the largest Moscow cemeteries, its total area is 127 hectares. In the administrative sense, the Domodedovo cemetery is a structural subdivision of the Moscow State Unitary Enterprise "Ritual". This enterprise includes most of the Moscow cemeteries, regardless of where they are located - in the city or in the region.

How to get to Domodedovo Cemetery

The most reliable vehicle providing communication between the Domodedovo cemetery and the city is the bus route number 510. It leaves from a stop at the metro station "Domodedovskaya" Zamoskvoretskaya line of the Moscow Metro. On the Easter week and on the Parent's Day , several additional routes are organized from different metro stations. In addition, you can use the services of fixed-route taxis. What if you need to find a grave, and its location is unknown? In this case, please contact the administration. Its office is located not far from the central entrance to the Domodedovo cemetery. The list of graves has been regularly maintained here since the foundation, and the chance that a necessary grave will be found is quite large. When applying for information it is desirable to know the date of burial, this will greatly speed up the search process.

Territory and accomplishment

The scheme of the Domodedovo cemetery is rather complicated and not always logical. 250 sections are designated on it, but it is not always possible to trace the pattern of increasing ordinal numbers. Therefore, it is best to find the required site on the stand at the entrance, where this scheme is located, and only then to look for it on the ground. In recent years, throughout the vast territory of the cemetery, a significant amount of work has been done on its improvement and gardening. But only the central avenues and main thoroughfares can be considered fully equipped. A ring one-way traffic pattern for vehicles was installed on them. On all territory the marking of sites is made and the indexes are established, facilitating a direction of movement to those or other objects. The central entrance is concentrated administrative and service structures. There is also a workshop where granite tombstones and marble monuments are made and installed. Domodedovo cemetery has an extended territory, therefore for the convenience of visitors, an internal bus route has been introduced there since 2009. The remote parts of the territory are currently only waiting for works on their landscaping and gardening. The carrying out of these works is included in the prospective plans of the State Unitary Enterprise "Ritual".

War graves and temples

In 2005, on the anniversary of the Great Victory, the Military Memorial Necropolis was opened in the cemetery. On this site, war veterans are buried, as well as servicemen who died in local military conflicts and in the line of duty. Currently, several Orthodox churches operate simultaneously in the cemetery. The most significant of these is the Temple, established in 1995, in the honor of the Icon of the Sorrowful Mother of God. In addition to it there is also a temple in honor of the martyr Uar of Egypt and a memorial chapel in honor of the icon of Kazan Mother of God. Since 1992, Domodedovo cemetery is under the spiritual care of Metropolitan Krutitsky and Kolomna.

Operating mode

Currently, the free territory of the cemetery is almost exhausted. Therefore, only those whose relatives were buried at the Domodedovo cemetery in previous years can be buried here today. In addition, the burial of urns with ashes to the grave or the wall of the open columbarium existing here is permitted. The question of whether reserve territories will be added to the Domodedovo cemetery is currently under discussion. The decision about this has not been made yet. The cemetery is open to visitors from 9 to 19 hours from May to September and from 9 to 17 hours from October to April. Mourning ceremonies are held at the Domodedovo Cemetery daily from 9 am to 5 pm.
