A moral ideal is a process built on the perception of moral demands through a certain image of the individual. It is formed by a number of characteristics. For example, during the war years, moral ideals focused on the image of a brave, valiant, noble man who owns weapons, but uses it only to protect his land and his relatives.

Understanding of the moral ideal has spread to the whole society. A person dreams of seeing himself in a society that will be built on humane and fair principles. In this case, the ideal is the image of such a society in which it is possible to express the interests of certain social groups, their concepts of higher justice and the social order that would become the best.

Moral indicators of the social ideal consist of an equitable distribution of welfare between members of society, the relationship between human rights and responsibilities. To high moral elements include the ability of the individual, her place in life, contribution to social life and the volume received in exchange for it. Moral ideals cause positive indices of life and the ability to achieve a happy existence. Striving for excellence, which is the ultimate goal of all efforts, man and society should use only highly moral means.


Lenin considered moral ideals to be "moral higher", which combines positive characteristics. In his opinion, they represented everything necessary for people and were a model for the society. From the moral properties, evaluated on a higher scale, the content of the ideal is constructed. Consciousness elevates to an excellent degree those high moral traits, qualities, attitudes of people that are real and real in nature. Society and personality seek to realize moral values. Each member of society should adequately and correctly think, be able to build relationships and interact. The ideal is accompanied by certain positive emotional manifestations. In particular, they include admiration, approval, the desire to be better. All this is a strong stimulant, forcing a person to strive for self-education and self-development. There are several types of ideal: regressive and reactionary, real and utopian. The content of moral qualities has changed in the course of history. The ideals of the past, due to their illusory and detached from reality, not aimed at the activity of the individual, remained inaccessible. Even the essence of progressive high moral indicators was based on subjective wishes, without awareness of the impartiality of the law and ways to achieve.

Influence of modernity

In the time of the communist system, moral ideals were called upon to serve the formation and strengthening of the existing system. An indicator of the high morale of modern society is a harmoniously developed personality. It is distinguished by the desire for moral perfection. The society presents to its members certain moral requirements. They collectively form a model of a fully developed personality. Constantly enriching, replenishing with something new, they reflect the development of the moral practice of the socialist society. The society of the times of socialism places first on the culture of the individual, an active civic position, a sense of public duty, non-diversion of words and deeds, honesty.

The moral ideals of our time have an active and effective character, connected with the needs of society. They acquire real outlines in the socialist interaction of members of society. The moral foundations of our time are active in the spheres of self-improvement, moral education and self-development. Plekhanov said that the more active a person seeks to achieve a social ideal, the higher he becomes in the moral plane. But even in socialist times, high moral indicators, not coinciding with reality, go one step ahead. They set before the person certain goals, consisting in a constant movement, an uninterrupted development process. Increasing the social activity of the individual, improving social practice and moral education - all this in a complex will allow to resolve the contradictions that have arisen between reality and the moral ideal.
