Dmitry Chernyakov - talented opera director

Dmitry Chernyakov - director (photo below) of opera and drama performances. He was born in Moscow in 1970. To the current profession came not immediately. For some time the young man studied at an architectural institute, and only then entered the GITIS.

First production

His debut performance Dmitry Chernyakov delivered in the third year. He was then just over twenty years old. To make a statement in Moscow, he was ashamed. Dmitry perfectly understood that in this case, he does not have the right to make a mistake. Therefore, the young man acquired the first director's experience in Tver. This happened in 1991. In one of the interviews, Dmitry said that he was very enthusiastic at that time and did not even notice how the USSR collapsed.

Opera

Initially, the work of Chernyakov did not correlate with this genre. Dmitri thought that the dramatic theater gives the director more opportunities. After all, there the actors are not connected with the vocals. After graduating from GITIS, the young man found a job in the Russian Drama Theater, located in Vilnius.

But everything changed in 1998, when Dmitry put his debut opera in Novosibirsk. It was a world premiere based on the work "Young David" V. Kobekin. The production has become a very important cultural event.

Teachers

The creativity of the hero of this article is a vivid example of what is called a "director's theater". Dmitry is skeptical about the achievements of his predecessors in the field of opera. In the field of opera directing, he openly refers to Russia as a "third world country" that "failed to recognize, overlooked" everything that has long been experienced in the West.

By his "teachers" Chernyakov considers representatives of such a direction of Scandinavian cinema as "Dogma". It prevailed in the 1990s and was guided by the rejection of complex editing, scenery, combined shooting and other self-restraint.

Own approach

Minimalism - that's what Dmitry Chernyakov has chosen for himself. The director, whose personal life will be described below, first of all seeks to interpret the scene as a game space. According to him, if you finish the line he has begun, then only the rug and two chairs remain on the stage. This will be the final and "Khovanshchiny", and "Eugene Onegin."

It is noteworthy that when the director began his journey in opera with a new work, he no longer collaborated with contemporary composers. Chernyakov was engaged in staging classical masterpieces of the past. But the young man presented them in a completely unexpected way.

Original productions

Almost for all his performances Dmitry Chernyakov himself develops scenography and costumes. And his interpretation of the classical masterpieces of the opera always arouses genuine surprise among the public. And the director's freedom of action is seen not only in the performance as such, but even in history. For example, many viewers have caused cognitive dissonance of the opera "Life for the Tsar", which premiered at the Mariinsky Theater. Entourage and costumes tied her action to the twentieth century. And this was in complete contradiction with the Polish musical characteristics of the enemy camp.

Dmitry Chernyakov very often endures the actions of masterpieces of the classics in modern times. This is one of his favorite tricks. So he did with "Tristan and Isolde" and "Aida", in which there was not even a hint of Ancient Egypt.

Separately it is worth noting "Catherine Izmailov", delivered by Chernyakov in German Duisburg. Dmitry replaced the merchant's house with a modern office, and executed the bedroom of the main character in the Asian style. The final of the performance was also unexpected. After the massacre of Sonnetka, the main character does not commit suicide. The girl is beaten to death by guards.

Other foreign plays

"Katerina Izmaylova" is not the only opera that Dmitri Chernyakov has set outside Russia. The director became the author of several more performances. In Berlin, he staged Boris Godunov, in Madrid - "Macbeth", in Zurich - "Enuf", in Milan - "Player". Dmitry always remains true to himself, considering familiar to all the works at a very unexpected angle. So, in "Macbeth" the director replaced witches with a street crowd, which incites the main character to kill. And in Boris Godunov after the curtain is raised, the destroyed building of the Moscow Central Telegraph on Tverskaya Street appears before the audience ...

Criticism

The director's innovation often shock the public, creating rather strange situations. For example, after the release of F. Poulenc's Carmelite Dialogues at the Bavarian opera, the composer's heirs requested that the play be withdrawn from the repertoire. And in 2006 Galina Vishnevskaya was so outraged by the staging at the Bolshoi Theater of Eugene Onegin that she refused to celebrate her 80th birthday there. From the scene on the stage, the opera singer was seized by despair.

Personal life

About her Dmitry Chernyakov prefers not to speak. Therefore, there is no information about the director's personal life. The only thing in the runet is rumors that he has an unconventional orientation.
