Diseases of strawberries: what should be afraid of gardeners?

One of the main reasons for the low harvest of strawberries and its death are diseases. Diseases of strawberries need to be able to distinguish and in time to take action, otherwise culture will quickly die. The most dangerous of them are rot, spotting, nematode and mites. Let's consider some of them:

1. White rot strikes foliage and fruits. Signs of defeat is that the leaves first brighten, and then dry. If the weather is wet, then immediately begin to rot. As for berries, they also rot. The property of this strawberry disease is that the surface of the affected areas is covered with a white coating, which consists of mycelium and sclerotia, gradually formed on it. In summer, thanks to a mycelium, the infection multiplies, and it is very resistant to drying. Favorable conditions for the disease are created in wet and cold weather.

In order to damage the development of the disease, you need to plant seedlings only healthy. As a rule, infection occurs in the open ground, much less often - in greenhouses or in suspended vertical crops. Once you notice the appearance of the first signs of the development of the disease, immediately sprinkle the fruits with medicines against decay.

2. Gray rot has a high degree of spread. The peculiarity of this strawberry garden disease is that, while keeping warm weather with high humidity, up to 60% of berries can be affected. The most extensive lesions occur in those garden areas where air currents do not circulate well, and strawberries are grown for a long time in the same place. Infection occurs through old leaves, damaged berries and weeds. Among the signs of the development of the disease is the formation of brown spots on berries, on which a gray fluffy coating can be seen. They then wither and disappear. The leaves are also covered with patchy inclusions of brown color.

In order to reduce the risk of developing this strawberry disease, you need to grow it on high ground or in limbo. The fungus is carried by the wind and droplets of moisture. It is strictly forbidden to leave infected fruits and leaves on the plot, because about 12 generations of spores are formed in a single summer season. It is best to grow annual crops, which means summer laying of the plantation and its autumn uprooting.

3. Black rot is mainly affected by berries, while they lose their smell, acquire a brown tint and wateriness. On their surface sporangia are formed. The causative agent of the disease exists on every affected area, in particular, in the tissues of the fetus. This disease actively develops at high temperatures and high humidity (85%).

Among the measures to combat this disease, strawberries are called the need to grow crops on high beds. Such methods help protect it from the use of chemicals.

4. Strawberry, whose diseases spread very quickly, can be exposed to late blight rot, which is considered to be the most dangerous disease with a high degree of harm. The consequence of its development is a decrease in yield to 15%, although it is sometimes almost completely absent. The organs of damage are all the aerial parts of the plant (berry, foliage, growth points and inflorescences). Of course, the fungus inflicts the most damage directly on strawberry berries, on which solid leathery specks are formed, and the flesh becomes very elastic, therefore it is poorly separated. The taste becomes bitter. The stem acquires a brown color, the rosette of the bush dies. Sometimes a fungus can get into the root.

The development of this disease contributes to the arrival of moisture in the drop form, which is why its active development begins after strong dew or rains. To protect the future harvest, you need to use only healthy seedlings, proper irrigation and a fertilizer system.
