Geographical location and history

The Republic of Mari El, sometimes half seriously called the last refuge of pagans, is east of the capital, but still in the European part. So, Yoshkar-Ola, Moscow ... The distance between these cities is not that big, it is about 860 kilometers. This republic is interesting because the titular nation - the Mari - is an adherent of its own traditional religion, combining polytheism and monotheism. In addition, the capital of the subject of the federation is worth visiting because of its beauty.

It is believed that Yoshkar-Ola was founded in 1584 to suppress possible unrest and uprisings among the people. It was a fortress, in which all the resources necessary for this task were stored. If the popularity of the route "Yoshkar-Ola - Moscow" is quite understandable, then the desire to leave the center in the outback does not always seem logical, unless, of course, this is not a business trip. Nevertheless, there is much to see in this city.

Firstly, it is an old city, where wooden buildings of the XIX century are still preserved. Secondly, it is worthwhile to look at the clock on the building of the art gallery, which are often called Mari's chimes - they are the visiting card of Yoshkar-Ola. Of course, this is the embankment of Bruges, so named because of a certain similarity with the architecture of the Belgian city. Monuments, museums - all this, of course, is worth it to see. But much more valuable is the amazing nature and as if quite different people ... If it seems that this is not enough, it is easy to get to the nearby Kazan.
