Sights of the Pskov region: photo and description

Pskov is the administrative center of the Pskov region of the Russian Federation. The first written references to the existence of the settlement date back to 903. By this date are some of the sights of the Pskov region. Krivichi (the first inhabitants of this territory) on a high hill founded a settlement. He was confined to the Great and Pskov rivers. At the Kiev princess Olga already fortified settlement turned into a real city. And it was in Pskov in 1917 that Emperor Nicholas II abdicated from his throne. Ancient fortification

This is quite an old place, which is located on the territory between the town of Ostrov and the village of Pushkinsky Mountains. The main attraction here is a hill. In the Middle Ages it was a fortress. At that time the settlement was subordinated to the authorities of the Pskov suburb and with it there were many temples and monasteries. In the last century, Vrev turned into a village. Residents from surrounding villages began to come here, because only in this place were the school, shops, club.

At the entrance to the village you can see the cemetery, which occupies the largest area in the village. This is a particularly ancient place. True, almost all ancient burials were destroyed, therefore it is impossible to identify them. Rare crosses made of stone can be found on this ancient burial ground. But there is in the town of Vrev and the existing cemetery, where quite well-known personalities are buried. For example, here the famous Pskov clairvoyant Maria Rezitskaya found her last refuge. It is called the Russian Vanga, and her gift is now wrapped in secrets and legends.

And not at all somewhere, but in the Pskov region. This town belongs to the so-called non-tourist places in Russia. In the Island there are only 25 thousand inhabitants. Here, the church of the 16th century, a virtually complete old city and one-of-a-kind chain bridges dating back to the mid-19th century were preserved.

The island is one of those regional centers, from where you can easily get to the regional center. After all, there is a large number of both passing and local bus routes. And the town is located at the fork of the three highways, so if you did not have time for public transport, private cabs are always at your service.

What can you see here?

The island (Pskov region), whose tourist attractions are for some reason not well respected, may, meanwhile, boast of some unique objects. One of these is the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, built in 1542. Its bell tower was erected only in the XIX century. The altar in this temple is facing north. No one knows why this happened. One of the versions asserts that in this way the abbots emphasize the belonging of the cathedral to Pskov.

It is worth paying attention to the chain bridges, which became a masterpiece of engineering skills in the mid-1800s. They connect the central city square with the left bank of the Velikaya River. Each bridge reaches 94 meters in length. They opened the crossing in 1853 in the presence of the emperor himself.

Legends of historical Pskov

There are some places of interest in Pskov and the Pskov region, which are covered in mystery and darkness. Gremyachaya Tower - a place covered with legends to the greatest extent. In 1525 this building was built on the right bank of Pskov. Modern archaeologists put forward the theory that the architect of the design was Ivan Fryazin - an architect from Italy. The tower was built as a fortification. This confirms the presence of six tiers and the presence of a large number of loopholes on each of them. Gremyachaya reaches only 20 meters in height, but this does not prevent to place on its internal territories a whole military garrison.

Pechory
