Bleeding after childbirth: causes and actions

Childbirth is a moment that the woman waited with trembling for 9 months, after all, she can finally see her already beloved baby. Now she is waiting for the postpartum period, which is accompanied by bleeding. Although this is a normal physiological process taking place in the mother's body, it can still be dangerous.

Bleeding after childbirth begins at the moment of separation of the afterbirth. The duration of it largely depends on the individual characteristics of the woman and on the way in which the child was born.

The postpartum period is divided into 2 stages:

  • The early period is the first 2 hours after the removal of the placenta. At this time, the walls of the uterus are greatly reduced, so that the woman has the most abundant bleeding. As a rule, at this point the volume of excretions is 0.5% of the weight of the mother in childbirth.

  • The late period begins after the expiration of two hours from the moment of detachment of the placenta and lasts on average about 30-40 days.

Bleeding after childbirth is called lochia. In the first day of allocation, the most abundant. Over time, when the wound surface, which formed after the placenta, begins to heal, the number of lochia decreases. And as already mentioned, after about a month they pass completely.

During the healing of the wound, the composition of the lousy changes, as a result of which the color of the discharge also changes. At the very beginning, they have a bright red hue, and after a while they gradually brighten. In order to determine in time the postpartum complications, it is necessary to carefully monitor the quantity and color of lochia. Therefore, if a woman suspects something is wrong with secretions, she should immediately go to the doctor, and if it is possible, then it is to the one who watched her at the hospital.

Many young mothers mistakenly think that after the birth all the terrible is over - their health no one and nothing threatens. But this is not at all the case - until the uterus takes its previous dimensions, there is a risk of postpartum complications. One of them is hypotonic bleeding. The early postpartum period is considered the most dangerous time for the appearance of such a complication. Therefore, at the first signs of weakness and dizziness, a woman should inform the doctor about this.

There are several causes that cause profuse bleeding after delivery:

  • Decrease in the tone of the uterus (hypotension).

  • Rupture of the uterus and cervix.

  • Violation of the process of blood coagulability.

  • Violation of the function of the uterus, which is responsible for the reduction.

Treatment of postpartum hemorrhage is divided into:

  • Mechanical - this is the so-called uterine massage, with the help of which there is a direct effect on it.

  • Medication - with drugs that cut the uterus.

  • Operative treatment is used in cases when the other species no longer help.

In order to avoid further bleeding after delivery, a young mother needs to follow several recommendations:

  • Empty the bladder immediately, as soon as the urge to go to the toilet. And in the first day after birth it is necessary to do it every 3 hours.

  • Breastfeeding is the best measure to promote the release of oxytocin, which significantly helps the uterus contract faster.

  • Also, the puerpera should lie for a very long time on her stomach. This is good at helping the uterus contract.

The postpartum period conceals a number of dangers. Therefore, every woman needs to know about how long the bleeding after the delivery lasts, what the nature of the secretions should be, and, of course, what needs to be done in order to prevent a large loss of blood.
