Diet for stomach cancer: what should be excluded?

One of the most common oncological pathologies is stomach cancer. The tumor begins to develop in the mucosa, swiftly spreading through the body, touching other organs - the liver, esophagus, and even the lungs.

Treatment of the disease is not only chemotherapy and medications, but also a strict diet for stomach cancer. It is aimed specifically at facilitating the course of the disease, as well as promoting prompt rehabilitation in the postoperative period.

Stages of cancer

Oncopathology, like any other diseases, develops gradually. Diagnosis of gastric cancer at an early stage is almost impossible without special laboratory studies. In most cases, this happens by accident. In total there are 4 stages:

  1. At this stage the disease only begins to develop, being exclusively in the gastric mucosa. It does not affect the muscle tissue. The early form of cancer is completely curable by the operative route, and also by the use of radiation and chemotherapy.
  2. A more neglected, but still correctable, case is the second stage of stomach cancer. The tumor enters the serous membrane, the lymph nodes begin to react to pathological processes in the body. After the operation and the course of chemotherapy, it is extremely important to be under the clear supervision of a specialist, and also to follow a diet.
  3. This stage is considered inoperable, but some doctors still agree to complex operations. The risk of death is high. The tumor at the 3rd stage extends deeply into the muscle tissue, and gives metastases to the regional lymph nodes. The body starts to harass debilitating pains that are not eliminated by ordinary analgesics. Moreover, there is a constant nausea, vomiting, digestive disorders. Most often, patients are treated with the third stage of cancer.
  4. The started stage, which, unfortunately, can not be cured. At this stage, the disintegration of the maternal tumor occurs, and metastases affect the entire body. There are irreversible consequences: refusal of food, general exhaustion, weight loss and painful pain. All that professionals can help is to ease the course of the disease.

How to treat stomach cancer?

The main method of treating cancer remains the complete removal of the detected tumor, followed by the use of radiation and / or chemotherapy. It is extremely important to turn to a specialist in time. Only a qualified doctor can prescribe an effective method of therapy.

Also as an auxiliary treatment a special diet for patients with stomach cancer is prescribed. It is aimed not only at facilitating the rehabilitation of the patient, but also at preventing the formation of a relapse.

Treatment for gastric cancer

Thanks to the results of recent studies, it was possible to establish that a diet for stomach cancer should be, first of all, low-calorie. Heavy food adversely affects not only the patient's physical well-being, but also the recovery rate of the body after treatment.

As a rule, stomach cancer is always accompanied by other pathological disorders of the body. For example, gastritis is the most frequent "companion" of an oncological disease. It is extremely important to prevent the development of the latter in order to eliminate the risk of ulceration.

If, as a result of the research, stomach cancer has been diagnosed, diet, nutrition and principles of eating are prescribed in a strictly individual order by the attending physician. Doing self-medication is not only inefficient, but also dangerous for life.

Basic principles of nutrition

As a rule, after diagnosing cancer in the patient, an operation is performed, as a result of which the whole stomach or part of it is removed. Stand alone are people with advanced stage and complications, in a situation with which it simply does not make sense to perform any surgical interventions.

Depending on the severity of the disease, its shape and type, the patient is given an individual diet for stomach cancer. There are several groups of similar power systems:

  • Before and after surgery;
  • Lifelong to prevent relapse;
  • For inoperable patients with advanced cancer.

Recommended diet for stomach cancer: what should be excluded

During the treatment of the disease and during remission, it is strictly forbidden to eat heavy food for the stomach, foods containing a large number of acids and animal fats, as well as fried, salty and excessively spicy food.

Prohibited products include the following:

  • Beans;
  • Products with coarse fibers, including red meat;
  • Tomato sauces;
  • Mushrooms;
  • Pickles, smoked products, canned food and marinades;
  • Fatty broths;
  • Coffee, strong tea, carbonated and alcoholic drinks;
  • Undersized and sour vegetables, fruits;
  • Simple carbohydrates (chocolate, sugar, baked pastry).

All these products are contraindicated in stomach cancer. However, it is worthwhile to understand that this list is incomplete. Any diet is made in strictly individual order by a qualified doctor.

Permitted Products

Diet in stomach cancer means the consumption of foods predominantly in liquid, or well-digested form. So, porridge and meat with fish pre-boiled, or cooked for a couple, and then converted into a puree mass.

To the approved, recommended food, you can include:

  • Light vegetable soups (ground);
  • Boiled porridge;
  • White meat and fish;
  • Vegetable puree;
  • Eggs and omelettes for a couple (only not hard-boiled!);
  • Grated cottage cheese (sour is forbidden);
  • Yesterday's bread (flour of the first and highest grade);
  • Vegetable oils (you can have a little fresh creamy);
  • Not strong tea;
  • Jelly, jelly from fresh fruit.

Also, on the recommendation of the doctor, it is possible to add to the diet and other products, or, conversely, the exclusion / replacement of some of the above.

Diet before surgery

To date, the only effective way to get rid of cancer is surgery, followed by removal of the tumor. For the operation to pass without complications, as far as possible, the patient is warned in advance about the need to change the diet.

Diet with stomach cancer before surgery implies the use of exclusively "light" food, which the body will absorb without any difficulties. It is best if all the products are ground, in the form of mashed potatoes.

It is extremely important to completely clean the intestine before surgery. To do this simply - just enough to make up your daily diet, in which 90% of the food will be taken by the vegetable.

It is necessary to evenly distribute each of the meals throughout the day. The optimal number is 5-6 times. Portions should not be large, and products simply must contain vitamins and substances useful to the body. This will help not only to strengthen the immune system, but also to speed up rehabilitation after the operation.

Diet after tumor removal

In the postoperative period, patients may experience severe discomfort in the stomach, including nausea and vomiting. However, this is not a reason to refuse catering.

It is important to observe a clear schedule of food intake - from 5 or more times a day, in small portions. The diet for stomach cancer after surgery is aimed at maintaining the body, its rapid recovery. It is forbidden to take hot, fried, salty, canned and sour.

Bread is allowed, but it should not be fresh. Preferably eat slightly dried pieces, but not breadcrumbs. The same goes for tea. Strong is strictly forbidden.

Dietary meat products are shown - veal, turkey, chicken, nutria. Also, receptions of fish, mucous soups and porridges (rice, oatmeal, wheat cereals) are allowed. Any meal should be cooked by cooking, baking (no crusting), or steaming. During the meal, you must observe the optimum temperature, as close as possible to the temperature of the human body.

In the first days after surgery the doctor can recommend fasting. However, this is completely compensated by vitamin solutions administered intravenously in the initial period. After three days, you can start to take a puree, and after two or three weeks to go on a diet.

Diet for inoperable patients

Diet for stomach cancer grade 3 is prescribed in the event that for some reason the doctor can not operate the patient. If the patient is able to eat independently, then you can use all the "allowed" products, as well as follow the recommendations of a specialist.

A similar diet for stomach cancer of the 4th degree. Often patients with severe forms of the disease do not feel hunger, as the body is completely poisoned by toxic substances - the products of decay.

Often, patients can not eat independently, as the patency of the stomach is broken by the tumor. In such cases, a small operation is done, with the help of which the transportability of food is bypassed. However, if it is impossible for some reason, then the diet is not appointed at all: the nutritional mixture is injected directly into the intestines with the help of a gastrostomy.

Prevention of gastric cancer

The appearance of precancerous conditions (ulcers, chronic gastritis, anemia, polyposis) is a weighty reason to consult a specialist. He will conduct a comprehensive examination, after which he will prescribe prophylaxis, as well as methods for eliminating existing problems.

Self-prevention is also possible. All you need is to radically revise your own diet: oily, fried, spicy, salty and smoked food should be at a minimum. It is best to exclude completely. It is also highly discouraged to abuse alcohol and medications (in particular, analgesics, antibiotics and corticoids).

It is better to prevent any problem than to correct it. Reasonable nourishment is a sure step towards a healthy body.
