Coupe car. How to find your place?

Modern transport systems provide many opportunities to quickly and comfortably overcome tens of kilometers of surface space. By plane, you can fly from one end of the country to another in a matter of hours, or you can travel the same distance on a comfortable bus along convenient modern roads.

One of the most pleasant ways to go on a trip is the railway. Everyone who has ever visited a compartment car, a sign of wheels, tea in a glass with a cup holder and leisurely conversations with fellow travelers. However, few people are familiar with its history and some interesting features. Moreover, not everyone can find their own places in the compartment car without the help of a conductor.

The well-known model

To all of us since childhood, an all-metal all-metal coupe has been manufactured at the Ammendorf factory in the GDR specifically for the needs of the USSR. Manufacture and delivery of it was started in the 60's and continued until the mid-80's. This production of wagons was the most massive in the history of the railway. In total, they produced more than 30 thousand.

At the moment, this type of vehicle is actively being written off in all CIS countries. This situation is also happening on RZD. Coupe car produced in Ammendorf, although familiar to our fellow citizens, but does not meet modern requirements for the carriage of passengers.

Scheme of the coupe car

Ticket in hand, but where to go with him - the truth, a familiar situation? That such questions did not arise, it is necessary to familiarize in detail with the scheme of the carriage-compartment.

Let's start with the deciphering of the concept of "compartment". This is a type of second-class sleeping passenger car. By the degree of convenience, it is much better than a reserved seat, but less comfortable than luxury or CB. Depending on the type, compartment cars are divided into 9 or 10 hotel compartments. Each of them is closed by a sliding door and is designed to accommodate four people. It has a folding table, a hanger, luggage racks and drawers. The mirror hangs on the door. The coupe car of the modern model, as a rule, is equipped with air conditioning.

All compartment cars are necessarily equipped with titanium for heating hot water, a compartment for resting the conductor, a working zone of conductors, two bathrooms and vestibules.

In total in compartment cars 36 or 40 seats. And they are numbered according to the following principle: all odd places are lower, and all even ones are upper. The numbering of seats starts from the compartment of the conductor.

Coupe car of increased comfort

The price for the ticket in the cars SV and suite is at least twice the cost of the usual compartment. Why such a difference?

The scheme of the car of increased comfort is not much different from the second class already studied by us. Only one or two passengers are accommodated in the SV. All the regiments in the car are lower. At the same time, the number of coupe remains the same, that is, passengers are at least half as small, correspondingly, less noise, and unforeseen situations caused by the human factor.

For the convenience of passengers in each compartment of the first class car, a wardrobe and a TV set are additionally installed. Shelves are softer, always with backrests for sitting.

Since the upper shelves in this type of wagons are not available, in their place there are additional luggage compartments.

The interior of the car is also slightly different from its counterparts in the second class. In it there are though insignificant, but generally ennobling minimalist design details. And the finishing materials are mostly of a higher quality.

The best place in the car

It seems that all the places of the coupe car are the same. However, among them one can find the best and the worst. For example, few people like the place number 36, since this is the uppermost shelf at the toilet. Its main drawback is a constant noise in the corridor, a fuss over the wall and an unpleasant smell.

Also seasoned travelers do not recommend buying seats in the closest to the conductor compartment. The luggage compartments in them can be occupied with blankets, bundles with gears and other things. If you do not get lucky and this situation happens, it will be completely pointless to argue and swear - there are not enough places on the train, but all this stuff still needs to be stored somewhere.

In the opinion of the majority, the best places in the compartment car are 9, 11, 13 and 15. Titanium, a conductor, a toilet and a vestibule (this is important for smokers) next. And at the same time, they are located far enough away not to smell from the toilet and the smoke of cigarettes.

Safety or fresh air

Before you start choosing tickets, you need to find out about another trick of sleeping passenger cars. In the compartment under the numbers 3 and 6, the windows do not open. And not only in the compartment car. In the SW and a reserved seat the situation is similar.

There is no possibility to open windows because of the special design of the frames, since it is through these compartments that evacuation of passengers in the event of an accident is expected. It is believed that the half-closed window can become a serious obstacle on the way.

So if you like fresh air, these places are not for you.
