City of Brescia (Italy): brief information about the village and its sights

Brescia (Italy) is one of the largest settlements in the north of the country. It is not just a large city, but the capital of Lombardy. All without exception, the Italians are sure that in this industrial center tourists will not be at all interested. But you can argue with them. Although the city is considered to be the center of the Italian metallurgical industry, it is full of sights, many of which have retained quite a decent appearance since its foundation.

A small story of a big city

Once upon a time, the city of Brescia (Italy) was called Brixia, and there lived the censors. This is a people who was known for having provided active support to the ancient Romans. The Union contributed to the fact that in a short time, Brescia became the main city of Transparadian Gaul. Such a status the settlement had until the fall of the Western Roman Empire. After this, the Huns in a relatively short time plundered Brescia.

Brescia (Italy), despite its difficult situation, managed to reborn anew: the city was rebuilt and continued to grow rich and prosper. In the XII century, the settlement turned into a city commune, ruled by petty princes, francs, Ostrogoths and Lombards. In the XIV century, Brescia began to submit to the Visconti dynasty. And already in the XV century the city under its patronage took the Venetian Republic. In 1849, the town was subjected to a brutal bombardment, lasting ten days, but after that he was awarded the title of "Lioness of Italy".

The kitchen as a business card

Brescia (Italy) is known in the world for its cuisine. Recipes of the main dishes of this region were formed under the influence of Germany. Here it is more than in any other place in Italy, manifested itself in a predilection for meat, in particular beef, and butter. National dishes of the area are special dumplings with beef meat, as well as roast pork. Bashkir gastronomy is considered to be larks baked in butter.

But not only fancy delicacies eaten by the inhabitants of this northern Italian city. They also like classical Italian dishes: pizza, polenta and pasta. All these dishes are served in countless city restaurants, cafes and trattorias.

If there is an inscription agriturizmo on the signboard of the drinking establishment , then you can be sure that in this institution you will be treated only with traditional and authentic delicacies of Lombardy and Brescia. They are prepared using exclusively local products.

What to see in the city

Brescia (Italy), the photo of which is in the article, is unique in that it is one of the few settlements of the country that managed to save the present ancient Roman layout. There are also more ancient buildings dating back to the era of antiquity. But today you can see only certain fragments of these objects.

The main attraction of the village is Piazza del Forro. This object gives an idea of the Roman forum. In the Piazza del Forro and today is located Corinthian temple, dating from 73 year of our era. Archaeologists discovered this construction in 1823.

To the east of the ancient Roman Capitol is the Roman amphitheater, which partially conceals the Renaissance palace. Today it is considered one of the main attractions of Brescia.

City Castle

The city of Brescia, Italy, like any other historical center, boasts a beautiful castle. It is located on a hill that people have settled since immemorial times. Scientists have discovered artifacts dating back to the Bronze Age. In the time of the Roman Empire on the hill towered a majestic temple. During the Middle Ages, the cellars and the foundation of the building were used to build a powerful military fortification.

The castle was subjected to multiple sieges. It was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt just as many times. The oldest part of the object, which managed to live up to our era, is a huge tower of cylindrical shape - Torre Mirabella. Behind the castle is a beautiful park, from where the picturesque views of Brescia open. In the halls is the Museum of Weapons - one of the best in Europe.

Two squares that deserve your attention

Brescia (Italy), whose attractions we are considering, has two more facilities that no tourist can not miss. This is the area of the Loggia and the Forum Square. The first square is located in the historical center of the village. She is in front of the Loggia Palace. It is on the south side of the three buildings with a gallery.

The Forum Square in the Roman era was the heart of the city life. It was through it that the main road that connected the village with Verona and Bergamo passed. On it were the Basilica and the Capitoline Temple. For many years archeological excavations have been carried out on the square, and Roman monuments have been recreated from the ruins in parts.
