Chords: what is and how to use them?

The beauty of the melody is created with the help of a harmonious combination of sounds. For example, if you just hold certain strings on the guitar and hold them along the strings, there will be little harmony in that sound. Before you start to extract sounds from a musical instrument, it is worth familiarizing yourself with the world of chords.

Chords - what is it?

A chord is a combination of sounds produced simultaneously. Such a construction is obtained by intervals. Interval means the distance between sounds (tone, semitone, quarter tone, etc.). Depending on the number of tones and halftones, it is given a specific name (prima, tone, third, quartet, etc.). A chord consists of 3, 4 or 5 sounds.

The structure of the chord follows the following law:

  • To a lower sound ("to") a certain interval is added (for example, a third);
  • Then one more sound is added to them - a fifth;
  • To the available notes is added the fourth intonation - Septima.

The result was a seventh chord of four notes. Playing the guitar requires knowledge of basic musical constructions. It is necessary to determine the chords - what is it and how to use them?

Types of chords

All chords are classified according to the number of notes used and the intervals between them. The sum of intonations distinguishes:

  • Triads;
  • Seventh chords;
  • Quints, quarts, etc.

Trunks are divided into major (large), minor (small), enlarged and reduced. This is an interval classification.

You can play with chords in two ways. A one-time extraction of a sound is called harmonic. Melodic game is characterized by the presence of intervals between sounds. For example, busting the guitar is an example of a melodic game using a chord. After we decided on the concept of "chords" (what is and what kinds of them exist), you can go a little deeper into the musical instrument.

Major chords

Major chords sound fun, fervently. They consist of the main tone (to which all the others are added), and notes located in 4 and 7 semitones (thirds and fifth respectively) from it.

The chord G. belongs to the major. It is one of the most popular musical constructions used by beginning guitarists. It consists of the notes "salt", "si" and "re". Clamp it on the fingerboard is simple enough:

  • The first string must be clamped on the 3rd fret with the little finger;
  • The second string must be clamped on the same fret with a ring finger;
  • The third and fourth strings are left open;
  • The fifth string should be clamped on the second fret with an index finger;
  • The sixth string must be clamped with the middle finger on the third fret.

Another example of major structures is the chord F. It is formed by the notes "fa", "la" and "before". The chord is clamped as follows:

  • Strings 1, 2 and 6 are clamped with the index finger by means of a barre;
  • String 3 must be clamped on the second fret with the middle finger;
  • String 4 should be clamped with a little finger on the third fret;
  • The fifth string should be clamped to the third fret with a ring finger.

There are a large number of major chords based on various schemes, including G and F. Also, many of the A and C constructions are included in this number. In minor versions, minor chords are often used. What is a minor and what are its features, it is worth investigating in more detail.

Minor chords

The difference between minor chords is their sad intonations, sad motives. The interval between the first and second tone in a minor for a small third is smaller than in the major. The construction of such a chord is based on the principle "1 + 3 + 4". When you create it from the main note, you must first retreat 4 halftones, and then 3.

Minor chords for guitar are represented by the following constructions: Cm, Fm, Em, Dm, Am, Bm and Gm. In the designation of each of them there is a prefix "m". The most popular chord is Em. It is used in many Russian songs performed with a guitar. It consists of notes from "mi", "salt" and "si". The chord is clamped as follows:

  • The fourth string is clamped with a ring finger on the second fret;
  • The fifth string is on the second fret with the middle finger.

Chord Em is characterized by a soft sound and ease of raspaltsovki. Beginning guitarists use it very often.

A successful combination of major and minor chords allows creating attractive melodies, pleasing with their energy and beauty. Professional musicians constantly experiment with such combinations, choosing the best sound.
