Choose a car: car classes

Civilized humanity has always been interested in questions of all sorts of classifications, and car classes were of interest to people almost in the first place, since more than 120 years of machines are almost an integral part of human life. In the times of the USSR, there was the Single Industry Normal No. 02570 of 1966 (OH 025270-66), according to which all cars were divided into classes in accordance with engine volume and dry weight. In addition, this normative document introduced a nomenclature of model designations, and it was unified for all automobile factories in the country. However, this system had a significant drawback: there was no accounting for the geometric dimensions of the machine. Thus, many cars remained "not classified" because their mass and engine volume were in contradiction with each other. For example, the legendary "Volga", so beloved by the KGB - it's actually GAZ-2410, the volume of its modified engine was about 5000 cm / cu. By mass, this machine corresponded to the middle class of the first group, but on the engine - to the large class of the second group.

Today, the classification of cars is a bit different. In the USA, for example, car classes are determined by measuring the interior and luggage compartment of a car, and in Japan, cars have only three classes: mini (cars that may be smaller than our Oka), small (up to 470 cm In length and a working volume of up to 2 liters) and standard (all other machines). But we are still more attached to European standards, rather than to American or Japanese. For this reason, modern automakers are trying to adhere to the classification adopted in Europe, where the classes of cars are determined, basically, by their appearance and purpose. They are denoted by Latin letters, from A to F. We propose to consider them in more detail.

Class A cars are small, their length usually does not exceed 360 cm, and width - 160 cm. These cars are intended for use exclusively in urban conditions. Basically, these are three-door hatchbacks, although there are also five-door hatchbacks. These cars are very economical, but they are not suitable for a large family, because they are designed for only two people and small luggage.

Such classes of cars as B and C are very popular in Europe. So, very many cars of these types have a front-wheel drive and a body type hatchback. However, the length of the B class car is between 360 and 390 cm and the width is between 150 and 170 cm, while the class C car, better known as the "golf class", is slightly larger in size: it reaches 440 cm in length, And in width - 175 cm.

A full middle class is category D. These cars have body types such as a sedan and a hatchback. They are quite capacious, and their consumer qualities are at a quite decent level. The length of the auto data is from 440 to 470 cm, and the width is from 170 to 180 cm.

Despite the fact that the classes of cars D and E can compete with each other in their qualities, all the same, cars of class E stand on a step higher. This is a business-level machine, therefore, their comfort is enhanced, and the dimensions are more impressive: in length these cars exceed 460 cm, and in width - 170 cm.

Lux cars are designated by the letter F. They have very high power, an exclusive appearance and excellent comfort. Knowingly they are called representative. The length of these cars is more than 460 cm, and the width exceeds 170 cm.

This was the main classification of cars by class, but there are several more categories. So, for example, sports cars are denoted by the letters G (inexpensive car) and H (expensive). SUVs, depending on their size, are classified as SUV1 (small) and SUV2 (large). Also there are cars-versatile persons, differing the raised capacity, and these cars have class MPV.
