Porsche Carrera GT - sports aristocrat

In the name of the car Porsche Carrera GT there are three words, and each - quite remarkable. First, Porsche is the abbreviated name of the Joint Stock Company of the Honorary Doctor of Engineering Sciences Ferdinand Porsche, which was organized in 1931 and later became the most profitable, in terms of each car sold, company in the world. Secondly, Carrera, which in Spanish means "race", but for Porsche cars - is a reminder of the famous race in the length of 3,436 kilometers, held in Mexico in the early 50's, sung in the film "La Carrera Panamericana" with Participation of Pink Floyd and revived in 1998. Thirdly, the GT or Grand Turismo is the term used in Europe for the naming of light, but comfortable horse carriages, on which young aristocrats set off on a voyage, completing their education with a great practical occupation in nature. Over time, aristocrats and those who joined them were transplanted from the carriages into fast and comfortable cars that were manufactured according to their orders. And recently the term GT has gone to small-scale sports cars in which it is possible to travel at high speeds on public roads.

The three above-mentioned terms were combined in the name of the car, which was presented as a concept supercar in 2000 at the Geneva Motor Show. Issue Porsche Carrera GT began only four years later, but its history began much earlier, in 1992. Then the English company McLaren ordered from Porsche the engine for the racing car of Formula 1. Due to financial problems in the 90s this project was suspended, but was resumed to participate in the races "24th hour of Le Mans", and then moved to the concept of a supercar, Shown in Geneva.

Initially, the Porsche Carrera GT with body code 980 was fitted with a 5.5-liter engine, rated at 416 kW or 558 hp. Subsequently, began to install a ten-cylinder V-engine volume of 5.7 liters, 450 kW or 612 hp. Coupled with this "super-heavy" was a 6-speed transmission with ceramic clutch. Braking provided carbon-ceramic brake system parts, and loaded body elements were made of carbon fiber composite. Due to such technologies and under the management of Walter Röhr, the Porsche Carrera GT became the fastest production car on the Nürburgring track: to improve its result in 7 minutes. 28 seconds Managed only in 2007, the supercar Pagani Zonda F.

In view of such outstanding sporting achievements and technologies used in the manufacture of the Porsche Carrera GT, the price for this car started from half a million dollars. And this despite the fact that manufacturers insisted on exceeding costs over the cost of this supercar. For two years of production of such machines produced only 1270 copies. Such a car is a subject of the owner's pride, with which he partakes extremely rarely and only under the pressure of circumstances, so the price in Russia starts from 12 million rubles and depends on the condition of the car.

In the current production program Porsche has a receiver of racing traditions and exclusive technologies - the Porsche 911 GT3, sometimes called the Porsche Carrera GT3. This is a kind of the current 911, with a base cost of 7 063 000 rubles, acceleration to 100 km / h in 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 315 km / h.
