Cat Chausi is considered to be one of the rarest breeds of domestic cats. Their breeding is limited to the American continent, with only a few people doing it. Breeders who control the development of this breed, very carefully ensure that the breeding animals do not fall into the hands of inexperienced breeders. The thing is that their crossing is permissible only with ordinary short-haired cats and with Abyssinian cats.

History of the origin of the breed

From time immemorial, wild cats liked to settle near human habitation. Often they climbed into abandoned houses. This was directly related to the fact that a large number of mice that served as a source of food lived in abandoned huts. The immediate proximity to man increased the ability of wild felines to cross with domestic cats. Most of these hybrid animals are observed in the Middle East and South-East Asia.

For a long time no one paid attention to the crossbreeds running along the streets of Egypt. But one day they did attract the attention of one American tourist, a connoisseur of cats. It was on his initiative and a project was established to deduce, on the basis of these vagrants, a new, one might say, elite breed.

The breeding program, which resulted in a breed of chow-chow cat, began in the United States of America in late 1968. The program was based on domestic cats living in Egypt. Breeders, interested in unusual creatures that surprisingly combine the features of wild and domestic animals, took several cats to America. As a result of the research, it was established that in the ancestors of the chauzy even the marsh lynx is mentioned. It was from her that the chauzy cat received a lean body with well-developed muscles, strong limbs and large sizes. The breed was registered in the TICA registry in 1995. The official status was singled out in 2003.

Chauzy (cats): description of the breed

This cat is almost twice the size of all other domestic cats. The athletic build of an animal with large ears, crowned with small tassels, creates the impression of a small puma, that's what breeders often call their favorites. The distinctive features of the breed include the so-called false eyes, which are on the back of the ears. These are small spots that resemble the shape of the eyes. Their purpose in the wild is to deter enemies from behind. "I'm looking at you" - they say to those who approached the cat from behind.

Chauzy is a cat with a big, massive head. The strictly outlined corners of the cheekbones and the developed chin give the appearance of the animal a primordial savagery. Eyes large, almond-shaped, saturated green or bright yellow in color. As expected in the animal world, cats are more massive than cats, and larger than their size. They can grow up to forty centimeters at the withers. The weight of animals can approach the level of fourteen kilograms.

The long tail of the animal should be equal in length to two-thirds of the entire body of the animal.

All these circumstances in the aggregate and became the reason that the cat chauzy received the status of a rare and expensive animal, hardly yieldable to breeding.

Behavioral features

The nature of the chauzy, the cat with a predatory gaze and the graceful body of a wild animal, amazes with its kindness. Representatives of this breed will be happy to rub against the feet of their owners and barely audibly purring them, recalling their tender feelings - this is what the breeders say. These are very sociable animals, nevertheless their wild roots make themselves felt - they are big fans of running with obstacles. No doubt, they will master all hard-to-reach places in the apartment: shelves under the ceiling, mezzanines and high cabinets.

Wherever a chauzy cat lives, she should feel freedom, it is advisable to provide her with active walks in the fresh air. Representatives of the breed are good at walking on a leash. With them, you can easily walk in the garden and in the park. Wild energy of the animal must find a way out. Otherwise, this is fraught with unpleasant consequences for furniture in the apartment. This can be avoided by providing your pet with active games and walks.

Animals are very communicative. They willingly find a common language with children. They get on very well with other cats and dog representatives. But you should not leave them alone with hamsters, parrots and other small animals. Hunting instincts will certainly prevail, and chauzy can very unsuccessfully "play".

The digestion of these cats deserves special attention. Breeders claim that this is a problem zone of the breed, since animals have a tendency to overeating. They are especially harmful cereals. Therefore, it is not worth to feed chauzy with industrial fodders containing a large number of them.

Care for chowzy hair is simple. It is enough to comb it with a massage brush once a week. Relatively calmly they refer to water procedures. However, do not abuse this, so as not to wash the natural fat on the skin of animals and not to spoil the coat.

Apart from the propensity for overeating and the heavy perception of cereal crops, chow chow cats have excellent health. Apparently, good immunity went to animals from their wild ancestors. They practically do not contract infectious diseases and do not catch cold.

Growing kittens chauzy does not present any difficulties. They do not require special care. All that is necessary is to limit the amount of the daily ration and provide a little friend with games and entertainment. An interesting fact is that even the strongly played kids chauzy do not scratch at all. Feeling under the claws of human skin, they immediately hide them in the pads and continue the game with a completely soft paw.
