Carbonated Water: Harm or Benefit to the Body

Carbonated water is a drink loved by all generations, from babies to grandmothers. The spiky bubbles of carbon dioxide in it have not left anyone indifferent. But is carbonated water harmless or should its use be limited?

What does it consist of?

The composition of soda water is very simple. It contains directly water and carbon dioxide. This composition has a simple sparkling water. Harm or benefit will be from her body - this is the subject of ongoing disputes between supporters and opponents of proper nutrition. It all depends on what water is in the composition. It is simple, mineral or sweet with the addition of dyes and fragrances.

Depending on the level of saturation with carbon dioxide, water is of three kinds. It is low-carbonated, medium-sized and strongly carbonated water. The level of carbon dioxide in it is 0.2 to 0.4 percent, respectively.

Beneficial features

Natural carbonated water is known to man since ancient times. Initially, it was used only as a therapeutic agent. All interested could come to a natural spring, collect water and even swim in it. In the XVIII century, water began to spill on an industrial scale. But since such entrepreneurship turned out to be unprofitable, as the liquid quickly lost its breath and lost most of its useful properties, it was decided to gas it artificially.

A positive effect on the body can have only carbonated mineral water. Harm or benefit from this product will depend on the quantity and quality of the beverage consumed. In general, natural mineral water is prescribed by the doctor for medicinal purposes. It is not recommended to abuse this drink, despite the fact that it contributes to the production of gastric juice with reduced acidity, maintains alkaline balance, activates the enzymes, prevents the washing away of calcium from the body.

In addition to natural carbonated water, sweet drinks based on medicinal herbs ("Tarhun", "Baikal", "Sayany") can be beneficial to the body.

Negative influence and contraindications

The water that has artificially become carbonated due to the addition of carbon dioxide to it, has a synthetic origin and has no nutritional value in itself. Especially it concerns sweet drinks.

The harmful effect of carbonated water on the human body lies in the fact that the carbonic acid that is present in the composition of this product causes flatulence, belching and bloating of the intestine.

Sweet carbonated drinks are especially harmful to humans. They contribute to the disruption of the pancreas and liver, cause disruptions in the endocrine system, provoke the development of diabetes and other serious diseases.

Carbonated water, the harm or benefit of which is its composition, can either restore and maintain the water-salt balance, or disrupt it.

Mineral carbonated water

Useful micro- and macro elements, as well as mineral compounds make the product useful to the body. It should be noted that, in addition to the level of carbonation, such water is of different mineralization. A weak and medium "mineral water" is suitable for daily use. It not only perfectly quenches thirst, but also saturates the body with useful compounds. But carbonated water with a high degree of mineralization is intended for use for medicinal purposes. Use it only in limited quantities, because the content of useful elements in it is large enough for everyday use.

Carbonated mineral water, the harm or benefit of which depends on the number of important compounds in it, is certainly better than sweet drinks. But in each rule there are exceptions.

Sweet soda water

Carbonated drinks can be useful. It all depends on the contents of the bottle. Sweet carbonated water, the harm or benefit of which is the subject of disputes between doctors, nutritionists and manufacturers, may include artificial food additives or herbal extracts.

"Duchess" and "Tarhun" contain tarragon, which is an effective vasoconstrictor, improves the digestive system and increases appetite. Carbonated water "Sayan" and "Baikal" has in its composition an extract of the Leuzea plant, which helps to relieve fatigue, increase muscle activity and normalize the nervous system.

In addition to natural ingredients, there may be harmful food additives in the water: dyes, preservatives, flavor enhancers. Such carbonated drinks can cause addiction, the appearance of rashes and allergic reactions, lesions of the gastric mucosa, damage to the enamel of the teeth.

The harm of "effervescent" water for a child

In recent years, nutritionists and pediatricians are sounding the alarm. Parents increasingly began to buy their children's carbonated drinks. The consequences of such unreasonable actions are obvious: the number of boys and girls suffering from obesity is steadily growing every year. What can lead to abuse of soda? Increased nervous excitability, problems with bone and endocrine systems, bad teeth. All this is only a small part of what can be harmful to sweet soda water for the body.

In addition to children, sweet soda should be excluded pregnant women and nursing mothers, as well as people who are struggling with obesity, diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, and allergies.

Carbonated Water: Harm or Benefit to Weight Loss

Everyone knows that any diet is based on a sufficient intake of liquid, namely pure water. Otherwise, the weight will stay in place. No carbonated water carries any food and energy value. It does not contain proteins, fats and carbohydrates, its calorific value is also zero.

To promote weight loss, it will be exactly the same as simple water. It is known that the liquid in the stomach gives a feeling of satiety. Therefore, it must be drunk necessarily for those who are actively fighting weight. In this case, the damage to carbonated water can be manifested in the fact that it causes bloating and flatulence, that is, some discomfort in the intestine. But if it does not cause inconvenience, you can lose weight with any water, and with carbonated ones.

It should be noted that it is only a simple carbonated water, without food additives: sweeteners, preservatives, flavors, dyes. Otherwise, instead of reducing weight, you can earn a few extra pounds.

Summarizing

It is difficult to unequivocally answer the question, what will bring the body carbonated water, harm or benefit will be from its use. First of all, when choosing this drink, you should pay attention to what it has origin: natural or synthetic. Natural mineral water contains in its composition useful micronutrients, which contribute to the improvement of the body. Soda, especially sweet, obtained by artificial way, can not be useful. From the use of drinks on its basis, one should expect only negative consequences, a deterioration in the work of the organism.
