Acute intestinal infections in children. Memo for parents

After the birth of the baby the intestine is absolutely sterile. Gradually, with the first sips of mother's milk, the microflora undergoes changes (within two to three years) and becomes almost the same as in an adult.

The formation of microflora is influenced by consumed food, taking medicines and digestive processes. With the most insignificant imbalance of microorganisms, there is a risk of intestinal diseases (in children under seven years old).

Acute intestinal infections are different, among their pathogens, the following are distinguished:

  • Sticks of dysentery (shigella, salmonella)
  • Intestinal sticks (staphylococci, Proteus, Escherichia, Yersinia, Klebsiella, bacillus typhoid, Chlamydia vibrio cholera)
  • Various viruses (coronaviruses, rotaviruses, enteroviruses).

Even at home, a child can "pick up" acute infectious infections. This happens if he does not observe personal hygiene, if he plays with contaminated toys. The cause of the disease can be unwashed vegetables, fruits. Walking in the courtyard, he can get sick after contact with contaminated sand in the sandbox or simply by the earth. Feces on the street can also cause illness. But, basically, acute intestinal infections are transmitted from a sick person.

The disease can occur with varying complexity. Depending on the pathogen and the age of the baby. Of great importance is the stage at which the disease is determined, on which, respectively, the timeliness of therapeutic measures depends.

All acute intestinal diseases go through four main stages:

  • Incubation period
  • Initial period
  • Height of illness
  • recovery.

The smaller the age of the child, the more difficult the disease progresses, it quickly develops and also leads to a deterioration in health. This is accompanied by:

  • Temperature (usually high)
  • Vomiting (regular)
  • diarrhea.

Baby intestinal infections increase the risk of dehydration, which leads to loss of beneficial substances (minerals, salts) for the body.

Starting with a sharp temperature drop, headache, diarrhea and vomiting, the disease goes to a more serious stage: a stool (more often liquid) with mucus and blood veins, and the process of excrement causes painful sensations.

With such infectious diseases , it is impossible to treat a child on their own. But it is necessary to take the necessary first aid measures. They depend on how old your kid is.

  • Gastric lavage.
  • Fractional feeding.
  • Drinking lots of fluids.
  • Reception of medications ("Polyphepan", activated charcoal , etc.).
  • Acute intestinal infections are afraid of a solution of salt. It is necessary to dissolve in a liter of water (boiled) a teaspoon of salt (cooked), four tsp. Sugar and a half teaspoon soda (food). Give the baby three teaspoons. Every five minutes (no more than 300 ml per hour).
  • A baby should be breastfed, as before. If problems arise with feeding, you must drink it with expressed milk (30 ml) every two hours. In the period between feedings, give the drug "Regidron".
  • In no case do not give the child products that cause the formation of gases and contain coarse fiber.
  • Immediately call the doctors, because the use of antibiotics without the supervision of a doctor is unacceptable.

With a significant loss of fluid, which is a consequence of vomiting and diarrhea, it is necessary to fill it. The volume of fluid replenished depends on the degree of dehydration. Usually, saline solution or medicines "Regidron" and "Glucosalan", "Galactin" and "Tstroglukosalan" are used inside.

The fight against diarrhea is also an important factor. To eliminate the liquid stool sorbents are used: "Carbolong", "Carbolen", "Smecta", activated charcoal and "Poltpefon".

The main factors for the recovery of the baby are:

  • Temperature stabilization
  • Significant improvement in general condition
  • Stable stool (for three days after the treatment).

Parents, remember that acute intestinal infections in children - a serious disease in which medical help is needed!
