A tent or a tourist tent?

Awning is a simple and effective invention of a person, which he uses throughout his history. It has not lost its popularity even now. Hide the car from the sun and rain, organize a picnic, make a light canopy - all this can awning. But do you need a tourist tent for a modern tourist, when the weight and quality of the tents have almost reached their perfection? Let's try to understand.

Shelter in marching conditions by definition should perform the functions of protection from precipitation, wind, cold, insects and animals. Of all the above, a tourist canopy can give real protection only from the sun and relatively from the rain. About its use in cold seasons is out of the question. It turns out that the tent surpasses the tourist awning in all respects, picnic - that's the only case of its justified application. But not everything is so simple. After all, the awning has advantages, which should not be forgotten. This is light weight with a large covered area and the absence of such a phenomenon as condensation. How can this be used?

Very simply - as a field kitchen. Indeed, it is in the bad weather to cook food in a tent or its tambour. This automatically leads to the fact that the tent becomes wet from the inside of the condensate. And this is the case if there is a gas or gasoline burner: a campfire in a tent, of course, will not be lit. A tourist tent, on the other hand, makes it easy to organize a camp kitchen, even a bonfire, and its reasonable installation will protect not only the rain, but also the wind. No less useful or even irreplaceable, he will be on the halts, when there is no sense in putting the tent on a short stop, and shelter from the rain and wind is needed. From what has been said, it can be seen that the tourist tent is not a competitor to the tent, it is an excellent addition to it. And if for two people the extra weight of one or a half kilograms is clearly superfluous, then for a group of three tourists or more, you can easily recommend awning as a mandatory equipment.

Right choice

Manufacturers of equipment in a large assortment now offer tourist awnings and tents, and an inexperienced person can easily get lost in this diversity. In order not to make a mistake when choosing, you should clearly understand why you need it. As already mentioned, the dignity of the tourist tent in its lightness and considerable area. But both these qualities are in some contradiction between themselves, because a large area implies more weight. Reduction of the latter is possible only through the use of ultramodern materials or reduce their strength and water repellent qualities. If you plan a hike in difficult conditions, when heavy precipitation is expected and strong wind, then the tent should be chosen based on its reliability, and only then look at the weight. This means that the tourist awning should have a minimum of stitches, be made of modern synthetic materials, its fastening points to the stretch marks should be reliably strengthened, and the stretches themselves are long enough and strong to install the canopy in any position.

Cheap to buy a good tourist tent is unlikely to succeed, and to carry a canvas blanket on its own makes no sense.
