Why there are fires in the forest

On the territory of our country, forest lands occupy more than one billion hectares. It should immediately be noted that not all areas are suitable for economic use. However, fires in the forest, no matter what areas they occur, always cause great damage to the environment. Nature conservationists have the term "forest fire", which is used to characterize and assess the situation. By this indicator, Russia lags behind Europe and North America. Partly this fact is explained by the large areas of unprotected forests. In the northern regions of Siberia and the Far East, it is very difficult to protect from the technical side.

Steady statistics show that fires in the forest most often arise as a result of human activities. More than 80 percent of the number of fires occur when careless handling of fire. The cause of an emergency may be an outstanding cigarette butt, match or spark of a fire. Even exhaust fumes from a working bulldozer can cause a forest fire. Given these circumstances, the Federal Forestry Agency has developed special methodological materials for organizing the protection of forests from fire. This memo can be useful not only to representatives of local governments, but also individual citizens.

Of course, it is not enough just to make a call "Take care of the forest from the fire!". It is necessary to carry out relevant activities and training. Every year, when a fire danger occurs, in many regions people try to restrict people's access to forest lands. Such a way to prevent fires in the forest is acceptable, but only with an integrated approach. It's no secret that a considerable number of people still live there, which, as they say, "live in the taiga industry." To forbid them to get mushrooms, berries and nuts is to deprive them of sources for existence. In such situations it is necessary to conduct practical and theoretical studies on the rules of stay in the forest area.

Fires in forests are a process of uncontrolled spread of fire. More precisely, it creeps in the direction in which the wind blows. By appearance, the fire can be grass-roots, upland and underground. On the speed of propagation, grass-roots species are distributed into stable and runaway species. The latter type most often occurs in the spring. Last year's grass burns and fallen leaves burn. The speed of propagation depends on the speed of the wind. Steady combustion can occur in the middle of summer. In this case, the entire fertile layer burns out in one limited area.

The horse spreads through the crowns of trees, and the subterranean one when the peat layer is ignited. In any case, fires in the forest are a great danger to humans. As it was said before, it is necessary not to allow a fire. But if this happened, then, if possible, pay it off and report it to the administration of the nearest settlement. If the fire develops, leave the danger zone as soon as possible. Go to the windward side perpendicular to the edge of the fire. If there is a strong smoke, you need to close your mouth and nose with a wet bandage, a towel or just a piece of clothing. It is very important in such situations not to panic.
