Why does the eyelid peel off?

Peeling skin of the eyelids is a very unpleasant phenomenon, and not only in the aesthetic sense. Quite often it is accompanied by redness, burning, itching, a slash in the eyes, and this greatly exhausts and reduces efficiency. After all, the body of vision in our time is an incredible burden, and even healthy eyes can become very tired by the end of the day.

If the eyelid flakes, most often it indicates the presence of any disease. In the case of self-treatment with eyes, it is strictly not recommended. First of all, you need an accurate diagnosis, delivered by a doctor in a medical institution. Diseases that cause on the eyelids peeling, can have a different nature, and hence the treatment requires completely different.

Redness and peeling of the eyelids can be caused by allergic, bacterial, viral, fungal or demodectic lesions.

Demodecosis. The disease causes the eyelid, which is invisible to the eye, a natural inhabitant of hair follicles and microflora of the eyelids. Under normal conditions, he does not manifest himself at all, but can activate his vital activity with reduced immunity and disturbed metabolic processes in humans. When a mite is affected, patients complain of redness, eyelids, lashes, appearance of scales between them, unpleasant sensations in the eyes, itching in the morning, tightness of the skin, purulent discharge. The mite also lives on other parts of the face. From its rapid reproduction, the skin on the eyebrows flakes , there are affected areas on the cheeks, forehead, ears, allergic eye diseases occur.

Viral diseases. The cause of reddening, itching, the appearance of bubbles and peeling of the eyelids can be a simple herpes, which manifests itself under such unfavorable conditions as reduced immunity, infectious diseases, and is very contagious. In the viral nature of the disease, one eye is usually affected. Herpes is populated in our body forever, so relapses are possible.

Scaly blepharitis or seborrhea of the eyelids. Another disease in which the eyelid flakes, itching, burning, thickening of its edges, lacrimation, insignificant photophobia. In this disease, scales of white, yellowish, grayish color appear between the eyelashes and their base. They are formed from withered glandular secretion and dying cells of the epidermis. Itching with blepharitis causes a desire to rub eyes, but this should not be done in any case, since the situation will only worsen. Scaly blepharitis requires serious treatment, otherwise the disease can last for years.

Bacterial form. Diseases of the eyelids can be caused by various bacteria, for example, chlamydia. The disease is characterized by abundant mucous discharge, it can be quite hard and is, like the viral form, acute.

Allergies. If the eyelid turns red and flakes, it is possible that it is an allergic reaction to cosmetics, medicines, food, chemicals, radiation, pollen of plants. The allergy is characterized by the defeat of both eyelids.

Fungal lesions of the eyelids. The causative agents of fungal diseases are present in large numbers around us. Sources of infection can be sick people, animals, plants, soil, water, dust. Adverse factors are summer time, heat and moisture, unsanitary conditions in everyday life and at work. Often fungal conjunctivitis is associated with an unreasonable and uncontrolled intake of antibiotics. If the eyelid is affected by the fungus, a long treatment under medical supervision is required.

If the eyelid flakes, it can be caused by a poor state of the body and various ailments: inadequate nutrition, vitamin and micronutrient deficiency, gastrointestinal pathologies, metabolic disorders, helminth infection, diabetes, tuberculosis, nose, throat, and teeth diseases.

Treatment of peeling skin of the eyelids depends on the causes of its appearance. With allergies, hormonal and antiallergic agents are prescribed. Diseases caused by fungi are treated with antifungal drugs. Herpetic lesions use antiviral agents, immunomodulators and external dyes (iodine, zelenka). When bacterial form of the disease, antibiotics are used. Ticks are treated with antiparasitic and anti-inflammatory drugs.

Of great importance is the prevention of diseases of the eyelids, which consists in the daily and correct removal of the eye make-up, the abandonment of the habit of rubbing and touching the eyes with hands, keeping the house clean, at work and in public places.
