What to consider, if you decided to sew a dress from chiffon

Although there is a huge range of fabrics and models on the market, natural materials are still in fashion and in price. Especially it concerns summer dresses. To a new beach season it would be nice to sew a dress made of chiffon or silk. These natural fabrics, light and airy, help maintain the optimal temperature balance. A short dress made of chiffon, which can be sewn in the atelier and on its own, just perfect for hot summer days. However, before starting to work, it is worth taking into account several important points.

The first of them is a natural fabric. Please note that this chiffon contains only natural silk, tightly twisted fibers. Thanks to this, the transparency of the fabric is achieved. The market often offers materials from polyamide or polyester: they are cheap, have a rich color range, are easy to process. According to the masters, such artificial tissue also breathes well. However, with the natural material and its cooling properties, no achievement of the textile industry can be compared. Therefore, we recommend to sew a dress from chiffon - a fabric without impurities. Such material is more expensive and more difficult to process, but the effect is worth it. For these craftsmen, it is not difficult to sew the dress itself from chiffon, even by hand. Namely, this method is recommended for the treatment of this tissue. The fact is that chiffon is an extremely thin fabric. Sewing on the machine will require, in addition to careful adjustment and selection of threads, making seams with the paper under the presser foot. This avoids puffs and unnecessary assemblies. But you can sew a chiffon dress with your own hands, either as a goat, or any other inconspicuous stitch. It is also quite difficult to cut edges on an overlock on such a fabric. After all, the material itself is so thin and tender that any thread and multiple punctures break its structure. As a result, there are assemblies, screeds, the edge looks rough and carelessly processed. Sometimes it is possible to successfully make seams using a very thin needle, carefully selected threads and stitch width, but not every machine will cope with it.

What other problems can a craftswoman face, who decided to sew a chiffon dress herself? This fabric is difficult to cut. She just wants to slip off the table, it's not easy for her to copy the model with all the details. It is quickly crumbled, so the edges should be processed immediately after cutting. In order to sew a dress from chiffon or blouse, it is better to use a linen or similar suture. It will hide the crumbling edges inside. As a result, tucks and stitches will not diverge. Of this fabric, the best are multi-layered, draped models. Minor details will be almost invisible. Loops usually make air or rudimentary. But it looks great drapery, ruches, frills. Since the fabric is thin and transparent, usually this dress is planted either on the lining or on a special cover. However, if you are sewing multi-layer models, this may not be required. In addition, the lining should be made of natural fabric, otherwise all the charm and dignity of chiffon will be lost if the body is to adhere to artificial material.
