What is VCS? How does this abbreviation stand?

The abbreviation VKS recently began to meet quite often. But for many people it is not clear. And many ask a logical question: what is VCS? Well, we should give an answer to it.

Definition

VKS RF is the aerospace force of the Russian Federation. And they are unknown to many people only because they formed them only in the past, in 2015. VKS were formed as a result of the unification of the air force (i.e., the Air Force) and the aerospace defense forces.

So far, there is not even a year for this unification. Because the forces began to fulfill their tasks only from the first of August last year, when V. Putin ordered it in his decree.

It is also worth mentioning for general reference that the Russian Air Force is under the overall supervision of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of our state. And the direct leadership is exercised by the High Command of the Military Space Agency.

And one more nuance - the main headquarters is located in the building belonging to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. And it is, as you know, in the Arbat area, in the capital of our state.

A bit of history

So, the composition of VKS has already been listed above. But many are interested in knowing: why exactly did the unification of the previously mentioned forces occur? And there is an answer to this question. This is important to mention, talking about what is VCS.

Last year, at one of the conference calls, Army General Sergei Shoigu announced certain information. The statesman said that the combination of air and space forces is the most optimal option, suitable for improving the modern defense system of the country. Sergei Shoigu said that if the concentration of responsibility for air and space forces in one place, then the effectiveness of their application will increase significantly. And they will develop more intensively, and also more effectively solve problems in the space and air spheres.

All this became the prerequisites for the creation of the Russian military space station. And we can state with confidence: the decision is correct and logically justified.

Activities

Speaking of what the VCS is, one can not help noticing the fact that as early as September 30 of last year (in fact, two months after the unification of the troops), the air and space troops took part in the Russian military operation in Syria. And their work was appreciated by the Russian president. Many servicemen Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin awarded government awards.

And on March 17 of the current year, in 2016, Vladimir Putin handed over the military banner of the VKS to the man who is the commander-in-chief - Victor Bondarev.

Tasks of the Russian Air Force: defeat and protection

Naturally, it is logical to assume that after the unification of the aerospace forces, the range of tasks expanded. The first thing that enters into it is a reflection of aggression in the air and in outer space, as well as protection against attacks, which the enemy is trying to inflict. The troops are obliged by all means, which are in their competence, to protect the administrative-political and industrial-economic centers, as well as the most important infrastructure facilities of their state.

VCS of Russia is obliged to liquidate objects and troops, using conventional and nuclear weapons. They must also provide combat operations for troops of other types. In addition, their task is to defeat the ballistic missiles of a potential enemy, which is trying to carry out an attack on important state facilities. And finally, the forces are obliged to provide the highest levels of management with verified, truthful information regarding the detected launches of ballistic missiles. In other words, about the potential threat found.

That's what VCS is. Very responsible work, which requires proper preparation, care and endurance. Not everyone has the courage to do it. People who do this, really deserve respect.

Monitoring and control

In addition to all of the above, VKS are obliged to monitor space objects and warn threats to our state. Observation is carried out both in space and from outer space. And if there is a need, you need to parry these threats.

Another challenge is to manage satellite systems (both dual-purpose and purely military). The launch of space vehicles is also included in the list of VCS responsibilities. Still all their forces and the ability of the troops are obliged to use to provide the military and commanders-in-chief with necessary information about what is happening now (or does not happen, this is also important) in the air and outer space. Finally, the forces undertake to maintain the satellite systems and the means by which they are launched.

As you can see, a lot of tasks should be performed by VCS. This is really a very serious military unit. Therefore, to serve in such troops is an honor and at the same time a responsibility.
