What is the use of an inter-section screed?

After installation, some pieces of body furniture may have a slight slope with respect to each other. To prevent the loosening of the body during operation, and also to firmly fix the structure to form a single ensemble, the parts are fixed with special fasteners - steel screeds.

Design

The chrome inter-section screed is a detachable steel fastener made of a screw and nut in the form of a threaded cylinder. There is also a screw version with a plastic casing, in which there is a nut made of metal.

Each part is supplied with special slots. They are made for fastening with the use of any tools - keys, eight-, hexagonal bits, various screwdrivers.

The cross-section screed is used to fasten the walls of furniture based on chipboard, which are parallel to each other. Classical chipboard panels used to create furniture have a thickness of 16 mm. Metal screed has a sufficient length for joining two walls. When fixing several chipboard panels, different types of fastening are used. The most common sizes of inter-section screeds are 8 and 6 mm.

Advantages and disadvantages

The cross- section furniture brace is the best way to secure the chipboard material. Sometimes unscrupulous collectors of furniture use self-tapping screws for this purpose, which as a result contributes to the deterioration of the product due to their pulling out under the weight of filled cabinets.

The screwed parts are created with a qualitative connection of the material. But it was not without negative moments: with an increased tightening, when the top of the nut engages in the surface, there is the possibility of damage to the material.

In addition, it is necessary to prepare the holes for the screws. Sometimes they have a diameter exceeding the size of the head, so a special washer is put under the part. This method of installation negatively affects the external appearance of the internal components of the case. There is a slight gap between the furniture sections due to the incomplete screwing of the screw caused by the presence of washers.

Cross-section screed: installation

To join the sections, the fastened parallel or side walls are fixed together by means of clamps. Drilled through holes with a diameter suitable for fasteners, at a distance from any angle of the walls of about 8-15 cm. The intersectional screed is inserted into the hole, and the fasteners are tightened. Due to the relief located under the top of the nut, there is no possibility of turning when tightening, but in some cases it is necessary to fix with a screwdriver.

It should be borne in mind that on the front side will be prominently allocated head screeds. Now you can find masking pads in stores, but they are presented in a fairly narrow range, and it is not always possible to choose a decorative cover for the required version of the chipboard finish.

If the order of installation of sections declared by the manufacturer is not observed, there may be problems with fastening. This may not be a full opening of the doors of the cabinets, because of which a tightening of the loops is required.
