What is a forest?

What was the forest for primitive man? First of all, it is a source of food. And also the beginning of work: gathering for women, hunting and fishing - for men. Thus, the distribution of work among members Tribe. The forest determined the national character of architecture: for the ancient Slavs, a log structure was a typical construction. Until today, rural homes are built of this material, and its choice is due to environmental friendliness.

What is the forest during the Great Gains period? Perfect protection against the expansion of regular troops, usually having tactics of fighting in open spaces. Free tribes living in wooded areas, small associations could beat up a well-trained and trained army. And after many years during the Great Patriotic War in the wooded areas in the occupied territories of Belarus and Ukraine in the forests continued to operate troops of Soviet power.

What is the forest today? Certainly, these are the "lungs" of our planet. They are the ones most involved in the process of oxygen circulation in the Earth's atmosphere. Due to the huge mass of forests, the necessary proportion of this gas is maintained, which can provide vital activity for living beings. Nevertheless, in recent decades there has been an increased accumulation of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and a greenhouse effect. Only the forest ecosystem can solve these problems and give the population of the planet a chance to find a way to restore balance.

The more fully the biomass of vegetation, that is, the more saturated the tiers of the forest, the greater the concentration of carbon dioxide. Due to this, vegetation massifs are able to remove this substance harmful to living things from the atmosphere and prevent the development of the greenhouse effect. In forest ecosystems, 92% of carbon dioxide is concentrated.

What is the forest for human economic activity? Of course, it remains a source of food: honey, game, mushrooms, berries. So far, the "forest source of energy" is firewood. Material for the construction of houses and other buildings - a tree - to this day successfully competes with others, due to its environmental friendliness, comfort and coziness. It is also a source of raw materials for various industries. Also important is the participation of forests in the regulation of natural processes: windbreaks help preserve the fertility of the earth.

But, unfortunately, the amount of logging is increasing year by year, exceeding the natural and artificial restoration of the forest. In many countries where environmental issues are taken seriously, not only are they systematically breaking down plantations, but also completely prohibit any cutting in some areas. Whether it's private or industrial blanks. Thanks to such sanctions, the biomass of forests in these countries is not decreasing. For example, in Germany there is a "primeval forest", the age of trees in which it reaches four hundred years. There have never been any cutting operations in it. Probably, Russians should also seriously think about their own forest.
