What does the pain in the left arm indicate?

Pain in the left arm is a common symptom of very many diseases. Often people consider it a sign of heart problems that have started. However, this is not always true. There are much more complex forms of body disorders that cause this pain.

It happens that the cause of pain in the hands can only be overexertion. In this case, you just need rest and peace. If such painful sensations are repeated, you should consult a neurologist, cardiologist or therapist. Perhaps, the source of discomfort is not at all in this.

The pain in the left hand has several possible causes:

  1. Overstrain of muscles. In this case, the pain passes after a while, if the body is given the opportunity to relax as much as possible.
  2. Diseases of the musculoskeletal system. If the pain is long, sharp, often in the area of the ulnar fold, then the cause may be epicondylitis (dislocation of ligaments between muscles and muscle elements in the shoulder joint), vasospasm, disturbances in the cervical region. As a rule, the diagnosis should be complex: ultrasound, MRI, a general and biochemical blood test.
  3. If the pain is given to the left arm, a myocardial infarction is possible . Concomitant signs of heart attack are frequent breathing, chest pain, pallor, general weakness, weak threadlike pulse, sometimes nausea and vomiting. As a rule, in women the pain appears in the abdominal region, the cervical region, and even the jaw hurts.
  4. Diseases of the cardiovascular system can provoke pain in the shoulder and arm. These can be violations of a different nature, with additional symptoms often such as: weakness, chest pain, dizziness, weakness, slow heartbeat.
  5. Ligament rupture. It is the result of a strong and sharp load. The pain in this case is acute, impulsive, sometimes pulsating.
  6. Fracture or dislocation. If the pain in the left hand is caused by a dislocation or fracture, the x-ray of the inflamed area should be initially done. The place of injury, as a rule, turns blue and swells.
  7. If no damage has occurred, the cause of pain in the arm and shoulder may be arthritis or intervertebral hernia. In this case, the pain disappears during treatment. If the pains resume and periodically repeat themselves, an inflammatory process is possible in this area. Then treatment should be radically changed.
  8. The syndrome is called "shoulder-brush". This is a shoulder and scapular arthrosis, which is characterized by swelling of the inflamed area. The disease requires a long, serious treatment.
  9. "Tunnel Syndrome" is a disease of computer scientists and gamers. It occurs as a result of too long a stay at the computer and is accompanied by a pinched nerve in the area of the carpal tunnel. One of the main reasons is the wrong position of the hand when working on the computer. For treatment, an elastic bandage is used to stretch the wrist area. However, this need not be done tightly, so as not to disturb blood circulation in this area. If the pain is prolonged, a visit to a neurologist is simply necessary. The occurrence of this syndrome can be prevented by using specialized mouse mats with silicone or rubber seals. They help to fix the brush in the right and relaxed position.
  10. Pain in the left arm can provoke a neuralgic arrhythmia. As a rule, pain is strong not only in the hand, but also in the shoulder joint, muscle atrophy is observed in the proximal part of the arm, as well as paralysis of the jagged muscles.

As follows from the above, the causes of pain in the left hand can be completely different. Therefore, only the doctor will be able to correctly follow the symptoms of the disease and prescribe the right treatment in a timely manner.
