History and attractions of the New World (Crimea)

Few people have not heard of the village of Novy Svet - the birthplace of the famous "Soviet champagne." This wonderful paradise of the Crimea is really worth a visit. And, as a rule, someone who has visited there once, pulls there again and again. What is the history of the village? And what are the attractions of the New World (Crimea) beckon tourists there for how many years? But first about where exactly is this unforgettable place.

Location:

This village is hidden in the vicinity of Cape Kapchik (southern coast of Crimea, near Sudak) and from the north, west and east is protected by mountains. It was thanks to the surrounding mountains that the New World retained its pristine beauty, because for a long time the path was accessible only from the south, from the sea side. It is now from Sudak paved asphalt road to the village: some 10 minutes by car - and the view opens amazing landscapes and sights of the New World. The cities of Crimea are unique each in itself, and the village of Novy Svet is a true miracle.

Climate and vegetation

The mountains protect from cold winds from the peninsula, so there are no sharp changes in the weather. Winter is mild, warm, almost always with plus temperatures, snow rarely falls. Already in late February, spring comes to the New World (Crimea).

Sightseeing here is a rare tree species: the curved Crimean and Sudak pine. Also here are entire groves of juniper.

History of the New World

The fact that this fairy-tale corner was inhabited as far back as the Middle Ages is evidenced by the Genoese chronicles. During the reign of the Italians on the peninsula, there was a village here. Although recently found archaeological evidence that people here lived at least as far back as the 8th century.

If we talk about the time when Crimea already belonged to the Russian Empire, then these lands often passed from hand to hand. The first masters of the New World did not quite realize their happiness in owning such a paradise, so they did not stay there for long and did not develop the village. No sights of the New World (Crimea) have so far attracted a high society. Unless the first name of Paradise (in the translation "paradise", "garden") the village owes the nobleman de Galere who received these lands as a gift from Empress Catherine II. But who really played a crucial role in the development of this resort, it's Prince Lev Sergeyevich Golitsyn, who acquired this estate in 1878.

Wine-making - profile industry

This descendant of a noble princely family, who studied wine production in France, put his whole heart into a new possession. He decided to develop wine there, as the climate was more than favorable for this. He started with the fact that he planted European grape varieties on his land to watch the Crimean sun affect the quality of the wine. The prince built a factory, invested almost all his money in it.

Crimean champagne

Since 1882, Golitsyn has been making quite successful experiments on the production of champagne wines.

After ten years of experiments, the best varieties of grapes were determined for these purposes; They were Pinot Gray, Pinot Black, Aligote, Chardonnay and Murdwer. Also winemakers reached the optimal percentage of each variety in sparkling wine. As a result - the creation of such well-known to this day brands of Crimean champagne, like "Paradise", "New World", later called "Coronation." To appreciate their taste, ordinary workers could also appreciate (the prince sold wine at very affordable prices), and the world public (golitsynskie wines participated in the Paris World Exhibition in 1900).

Victory at the exhibition

It was there that the "Coronation" brand champagne of the year 1899 received the Grand Prix. In this regard, we can not fail to mention the funny misunderstanding that took place at the gala dinner in honor of the completion of the exhibition. As always, the competitors were treated to wine, which received the main awards. Chairman of the tasting commission Count Chandon, raising a toast to the winner, was sure that it was his wine, and therefore loudly gave glory to his winemakers. And in fact he was holding a glass of champagne "Coronation", and Golitsyn thanked him for all the free advertising of his production. It was thanks to this drink that other sights of the New World (Crimea) became known.

Emperor Nicholas II, resting at Prince Golitsyn, tasted the champagne of his making. They say that he said the phrase: "Now I see life in a new light," and this name was fixed after the village. It's hard to say whether this is so.

The plant in today's time

After a 30-year period of stagnation (1906-1936), the plant resumed its activities and in 1936 gave the world "Soviet champagne", recognized even by the French, which is still produced. Since it is not made in a bottle, but in a tank method, the same French do not need to replace the word "champagne" (that is, produced in the province of Champagne) with "sparkling" in the name.

And recently (in 1997), the Novorossiysk plant repeated the success of Golitsyn's wines at the Paris exhibition - again the Grand Prix. Now 10 types of sparkling wines are produced here.

New World (Crimea): attractions

Of course, thousands of tourists come here to see first-hand capes of a bizarre shape, coves with clear water, mountains resembling figures of people and animals. Although many amazing places are created by people, it is the landscape richness of nature that is the main reason why people are striving to the sea in the New World (Crimea). Sights that can not be missed are:

  • Mount Sokol. In form it looks like a huge bird with folded wings. This mountain in its origin is a coral reef, and the largest in Europe, therefore under different lighting conditions it plays in different colors - from white to pink and purple. It can be seen in almost all the photographs depicting the New World (Crimea). Sokol Mountain's attractions are that from its top the whole village is visible, as in the palm of your hand.
  • Cape Kapchik. Stretched shape, it looks like the torso of a large dinosaur. Approximately in the middle of it is pierced by a cave with a length of 77 m - Crossover grotto.
  • Mount Karaul-Oba ("guard mountain"). It is named so because from the top all the coast is visible - from Meganom in the east to Ayudaga in the west.
  • The tract "Hell" with a stream of icy air.
  • "Adam's bed" - the intermountain, covered with a carpet of ivy.
  • The paths of the Taurus are the steps carved into the rock.
  • Trail Golitsyn. It is a road carved into the rock, which leads from Zelenaya to Blue Bay. In the middle of the route is the Shalyapin Grotto - a natural niche with excellent acoustics. Here the most unique samples from the collection of Golitsyn's wines were kept.
  • Museum of winemaking. He is in a house that looks like a medieval castle in which Prince Golitsyn lived with his family. Here you can find out about the prince's personal life and his role in the development of the wine industry in the Crimea. And in the cellars there is a tasting room where you can try out the legendary varieties of wine.
