The Tsar's Bridge on Dekabristov Street - a landmark in Yekaterinburg

In Yekaterinburg there is no shortage of rivers. There are at least four of them, and there are arteries hidden in underground pipes. Therefore, there are many bridges, some twenty or so, not less. But there are few beautiful river crossings. More precisely, only two - Stone and Royal bridges. Both of them are thrown across a small Iset river. Yekaterinburg as a city actually started from this place, and therefore, going to see the bridges, you can also admire the old manor building of the nineteenth century. These are beautiful houses of merchants and philistines, made in the Urals style. Between the Royal and Stone Bridges along the river bank a beautiful promenade is laid. So to visit this place is definitely worth it. And also learn the history of the Royal Bridge ... and, ironically, the street that passes through it. After all, it is called the Decembrists, in honor of the fighters with absolute monarchy.

History

We for the time being will not disclose, in honor of which king was named the bridge. But crossing the river Iset (Yekaterinburg) crossing appeared long ago. It is well known that already in 1948 there was a wooden bridge on this place. Little by little, the townspeople crossed from one shore to another. As it became known that Alexander the First, the emperor of All Russia, is going to Ekaterinburg. And the city authorities fussed. How will the imperial motorcade pass through the blackened boards of the old bridge? In a hurry, a new one was built. He, too, was made of wood, but pleased the look with freshness. According to one information, the king rode along this bridge. For others, realizing that on his august person the townspeople are trying to check the strength of the crossing, he refused to cross it. Whatever it was, and the bridge of the city government ordered after this event to be called Tsarist. Although it would be more correct to call it imperial - in accordance with the status of Alexander the First.

Stone Royal Bridge (Yekaterinburg)

The tree is an extremely short-lived material. And especially, when on it daily go carts and scurry pedestrians. It is not known how many times the wooden flooring was changed on the Tsar's Bridge. In the end, the city government decided to replace this crossing with a more durable construction. As it happens, a competition of projects was announced, at which the work of architect S. Kozlov won. The Tsar's bridge began to be built in 188, and by 1890 it had been completed. The building was purely utilitarian. At the forefront was strength and reliability. In the construction, the local Ural large rubble stone was used. Supports at the bridge are low, and the horizontal orientation of the bridge is emphasized by its three gently sloping arches. Architect S. Kozlov already at the end of the century before last foresaw that soon his bridge would be crossed not only by loaded carts and carriages. Therefore, he laid in his offspring a large margin of strength and reliability. But he paid little attention to the decor. Until recently, railings on the bridge were simple and simple. They did not correspond to the royal status at all.

Turning into an interesting place

The ever increasing traffic load does not affect the state of this bridge in any way. From the year one thousand nine hundred and fifty-two, trolleybuses of several tons by weight were launched along it. In general, Tsarsky looks much more solid than the nearby Stone Bridge in Yekaterinburg. And this is not surprising. After all, it was built some fifty years later than Kamenny, and when it was erected, newer technologies were used. City authorities in every possible way take care of this sights of Ekaterinburg. Several years ago, forged elegant handrails were put. And on the curbstones between the grilles are installed electric lights "antique". The renovated and decorated bridge changed its status. Now this is not just a ferry, one of many. This is a historical and architectural monument of federal significance.

The Tsar's Bridge and the Decembrists' Street

Alas, the story is full of tragedies and farce. Several years after the new wooden bridge crossed the imperial motorcade, the Decembrists sent to Siberia passed it. In their honor during the Soviet power was renamed Alexander Prospekt. By the way, the Tsar's bridge remained royal. The authorities of the USSR, who are sensitive to all manifestations of nostalgia for the former regime, somehow overlooked it. So it happened that a street passes along the Tsar's Bridge, named after those who fought with the emperor.

Tips for tourists

In modern Yekaterinburg, there are not many architectural sights. The townspeople are proud of their Royal Bridge and strongly recommend visiting it. Especially since it is not far from the center. A particularly beautiful view opens on the side, from the embankment of the Iset River. The royal bridge and Plotinka are connected by a walking alley, which runs along the very bank of the river. To the pillars of the historical and architectural monument street artists sometimes get to them and leave graffiti on them. But a small river and an old three-armed bridge still leave an indelible impression.
