What are the nonprinting symbols for?

The non - printable characters used in various text editors provide essential help when formatting text. However, often even experienced PC users do not know about their existence. It is not uncommon for a person to be horrified by the inclusion of the display mode of nonprinting icons, since he thinks that all of them will now be displayed when printing a document. However, this is not the case, and you do not need to be afraid, because it is for this reason that this category of symbols is called "unprintable".

As an example, you can consider non-printable characters in Word, as in the most popular text editor at the moment. It should be noted that the algorithm for applying these characters is the same for all common text processing programs. Using this important tool, you can easily format any document, as the process of preparing it will be simple and quick. This is especially important if the text is obtained as a result of scanning, is taken from the Internet or another text editor.

When getting started, you should turn on the mode when non-printable characters are displayed. Word allows you to enable this function with the help of a special element located in the "Standard" panel. At the same time, virtually all empty spaces disappear in the document, since all of them will now be filled with different points, arrows and figures. Each such sign is responsible for a certain action. For example, a space is marked with a period, pressing the "Tab" key will lead to the appearance of an arrow, and if you move to a new line with the "Enter" key, the end-of-paragraph symbol will appear.

It is also very important to know and use such non-printable characters as "page break" and "section break". The first of these is important in two main cases. If the scanned text is formatted, then each page will be separated from the other and have its own formatting. In order to reduce all of them to a single view, you need to manually delete the non-printing symbol located at the bottom of each page.

Another common situation when it is necessary to use this symbol is the creation of complex documents with sections and sub-paragraphs. In such cases, in order for each of them to be placed on a new line, you need to apply a "line break", which is set using the "Insert" menu or the "Cntrl + Enter" key combination. If the document is subsequently modified, its structure will remain intact, since nonprinting characters will be set in the correct places. Thus, the text will not shift, and every important section or sub-item will still begin with a new line.

"Section break" allows you to arrange paper with different orientations in one document. This means that one page of a document can have a portrait orientation, and the next one immediately follows a landscape one. This is certainly very convenient if you need to enter wide tables or diagrams into the text.

In order to learn non-printable characters, you need only a little practice, since there is nothing complicated in them. However, learning how to apply them is very important, because it saves time and makes formatting more efficient and faster.
