VAZ-2114 air filter: description, replacement

VAZ-2114 is a very popular car in Russia. Despite the way out of mass production, the machine is actively used by our compatriots. One of the main advantages of this car is high maintainability and cheap maintenance. "AvtoVAZ" still produces spare parts for this model. The air filter for VAZ-2114 was not an exception. We will talk about it in our article.

Appointment

As you know, to work the engine you need a certain portion of fuel. But without oxygen, the duty cycle does not happen. Therefore, gasoline is pre-mixed with air.

The latter is absorbed from the atmosphere. But we all know that the air in the streets is full of dirt. Therefore, in order not to damage the motor, a filter is provided in the car's construction.

Principle of operation

After the exhaust stroke, the piston in the cylinders moves to the bottom dead center. The engine generates a vacuum. In this case, the timing mechanism opens the valve through which oxygen enters. And he literally sucked into the cylinders, because the pressure in them - below the atmospheric.

On turbocharged engines, air is forced. But we are considering the design of the 14th Lada, where there are no turbines and compressors. So, when creating a negative pressure, air penetrates through the pores of the filter. They are sufficiently small and able to clear oxygen from dirt and dust. Then it passes through the nozzle of the air filter VAZ-2114 into the intake manifold. After that, the air is already mixed with fuel and injected into the cylinder.

Types

There are two types of described elements:

  1. Wireframe. This is called the air filter enclosed in the housing. VAZ-2114 is equipped with such a cleaner from the factory. This is a standard design. The filter itself is a rectangular paper element. You can see it in the photo in the article. The paper forms a kind of air filter corrugation. VAZ-2114 also has a body consisting of two parts. It is made of plastic and fastened with screws.
  2. Frameless. Another name is the zero resistance filter. It is installed non-standardly and, unlike the first type, is reusable. At the heart of the element is a thin paper impregnated with an oily liquid.

What is this for? The thickness of the paper in the zero resistance filter is much smaller. Therefore, the air is not able to clear normally, passing through its pores. In this regard impregnation is provided. Thanks to it, dirt adheres to the outer walls of the filter. It does not penetrate further into the engine. For greater rigidity, this element can be reinforced with a mesh.

Resource

The manufacturer claims that the replacement of the air filter on the VAZ-2114 should be made every 15 thousand kilometers. But these data can still vary significantly, depending on the operating conditions. So, in winter, the filter is already polluted by 7 thousand km. Therefore, it is better to replace it at the same time as the oil. Experienced motorists recommend doing this operation with an interval of 10 thousand kilometers.

Also note that the air filter on VAZ-2114 is consumable. It does not make sense to blow it out - it's a useless occupation. The element changes entirely to a new one. Moreover, its price is only about 150-200 rubles.

On the resource "zero-pointers"

But as for frameless "zero-pointers", they are subject to cleaning. This is done every 10 thousand kilometers. But you need to know how to do it right. You can not simply remove and rinse the part under water. This will not give any effect.

At first, the element is treated with a special impregnation (on dry, without soaking). Then you need to wait for time (usually 10 minutes) and rinse the element in the water. It is not necessary to re-impregnate it. After drying, the element is ready for reuse.

But pay attention that the FNS should be installed only after full drying, otherwise the water will fall into the cylinders. To speed up the process, you can use a home hair dryer.

Symptoms

If you do not change the air filter for a long time on the VAZ-2114, the following problems may occur:

  1. Decreased engine power.
  2. Increase fuel consumption.
  3. Failures in overclocking.
  4. Unstable operation of the motor on idle.
  5. Long engine warm-up.

When the filter is clogged, the machine stops normally "pulling". Of course, this does not please the car owner. So you need to follow the mileage. After 10 thousand the car requires replacement of both oil and air filter.

VAZ-2114: we change the filter by our own hands

It is worth noting that the replacement procedure is quite simple, and even beginners will cope with it:

  • So, open the hood and find the air filter housing. It is to the right of the engine.
  • Next, we need to unscrew the four screws around the perimeter of the plastic cover.
  • Then the casing rises. We will see a dirty air filter in front of us. They are not fixed in any way - the element simply sits in the grooves of the lid. Therefore we take it by hand and in the same way install a new element.
  • It is recommended to clean the interior of the case from dust beforehand. To do this, we use a soft rag soaked in gasoline or in a glass cleaner. Ensure that the edges of the filter (orange) are strictly in their slots.
  • The element is installed corrugated down. Having convinced that the filter is tightly installed in the case, close the lid.
  • Tighten screws better "crosswise".

At this time, the replacement of the air filter has been successfully completed.

Helpful advice

When performing any repair or maintenance operations, record all the actions in the logbook (normal notepad), indicating the type of work and the mileage at which they were made. It is very difficult to keep everything in your head - sometimes you can forget about what distance the filter, oil and other consumables were replaced.

Oil in the air filter on the VAZ-2114: what to do?

Sometimes when replacing, you can see traces of oil on the surface of the filter.

This is a bad sign. In this case, the following problems are possible:

  • Critical wear of piston wheels (in particular, oil-removable). Thus, a high oil pressure arises in the system, and it is squeezed out through the ventilation valve.
  • The sump of the oil-reflector is clogged. Because of this, the oil particles can not return to the crankcase.
  • The hose of the crankcase gas outlet is blocked. It enters directly into the inlet pipe. With normal ventilation, the gases move from the crankcase to the throttle. At the same time, a slight oil coating on the walls of the branch pipe is allowed. But if the hose is clogged, the pressure in the system will increase. The oil starts to go from all the holes, including getting on the air filter. The way out is to clean or replace the crankcase ventilation valve. On a muffled motor, it must be blown only one way.
  • The air filter is dirty. Strangely enough, but the dirty element itself can cause this phenomenon. Why is this happening? The motor does not have enough air, because of what it starts to suck it from any sources. This can be a crankcase with oil vapors. This problem is solved by installing a new air filter.
