Vasiliy Belov, "Habitual Affair": a brief summary of the chapters, characterization of the characters and reviews

In this article we will consider a work written by Vasily Belov. A "habitual affair" (a short summary will be presented below) is a story written in 1966. She brought her author fame and established him as one of the founders of "village prose". For the creativity of Belov, and before that, it was typical to describe the world of the village, but with the greatest power for the first time it manifested itself only in the "habitual business". So, let us turn to the plot of the work.

Belov, "Habitual Affair": a brief summary. Chapters 1 and 2

Ivan Afrikanovich Drinov, a simple peasant, is riding drunk on driftwood. Before that, he had gotten drunk with Mishka Petrov, a tractor driver, and now he's talking with Parmen, a gelding. He was instructed to bring goods for the store from the farm, but drunk Ivan confused the road and drove into a strange village. Now he will not get home until soon after by morning. But for him this is quite a common thing.

That's why he spends the night on the road. It was at this moment that Dr Mishka was catching up. Long friends still drink. And at this moment Ivan Afrikanovich comes the idea to marry a tractor driver his second cousin Nyushka. The woman is already 40 years old, and she works as a livestock specialist. True, she has one drawback - a thorn in the eye, but if you look at her from the left side, then nothing is noticeable. Friends go to Nyushka, but she chases them with a snatch, and they have to go to sleep in a bathhouse.

Chapter 3. Caterina

At the same time the ninth son, Ivan, was born to Drinov's wife, Katerina. Katerina herself, despite the strict prohibition of a paramedic, immediately after childbirth goes to hard work, sick. Katerina begins to remember how once, on Petrov's day, her Ivan wandered with a rural, lively woman, Daria Putankoi. And when Kateryna forgave him, he went on the joy and exchanged for the "harmony" the Bible, inherited from his grandfather. Ivan did this to make his wife cheer with music.

And now the very same Dasha refuses to look after the calves, and Katerina has to do both her and her job. Exhausted by illness and work, a woman faints in exhaustion. They call an ambulance, and Katerina is in the hospital. She is diagnosed with hypertension. Only two weeks later she was discharged and allowed to return home.

Ivan Afrikanovich also remembers the accordion - he did not have time to learn how to play properly, only the basses somehow mastered how they took his instrument for arrears.

Chapter 4. Haymaking

Describes in his works a simple village life Belov. "A habitual affair" (a brief summary illustrates this perfectly) is another description of the peasant way of life of the sixties.

It is time for haymaking. At night Ivan Afrikanovich secretly mows the hay in the forest for 7 miles from his native village. All because the peasants give the peasants ten percent of the waxed, and this will last for a month, not more, and the winter is long. To feed a cow, you need at least three haystacks, so you have to steal.

On one of these nights, Drinov decides to take Grishka's son, still quite small, with him. And then Grishka said stupidly that he went to mow at night with his father in the forest, to the district commissioner. Ivan Afrikanovich faces a trial - he is also a deputy of the village council. As a result, the district commissioner begins to demand that Drinov show who is still going to mow at night, and better write a list. And for this service he promises not only to turn a blind eye to the misdeed of Ivan Afrikanovich, but also not to "socialize" his personal haystacks. Drinov negotiates with the neighboring chairman and already goes to mow at night with someone else's territory along with Katerina.

Chapter 4 (continued). Mishka and Dashka

On the appearance of a guest in the family Drinovy tells a brief summary ("A habitual business"). Belov VI, without embellishment, depicts life in the countryside. On the head of Ivan Afanasievich another trouble came down - brother Katya Mitya Polyakov came from Murmansk, and absolutely without money. He settled at Drinov and in less than a week managed to water the whole village, scold the superiors on what light, married Misha Darya Putanka and even provided the cow with hay. And it all turned out for him, as if along the way.

Dashka gives Mishka a love potion, from which he then begins to feel sick, and after a couple of days they already go to sign the village soviet, also not without Mitkin's participation. After a while, the first quarrel between the newlyweds takes place. Mishka has a reproduction of the canvas "Union of Land and Water" (Rubens) in the tractor, which depicts a naked woman, in the opinion of the whole village, very similar to Nyushka. This is the picture and finds, and then tears and burns in the oven Dashka. Angry Mishka almost throws the tractor's bathhouse, which Daria was washing at that moment, into the river. As a result, the tractor is damaged, and in the attic of the bath hay is found, which was mowed down illegally. This case leads to the fact that hay begins to search throughout the village. The turn comes and Drinovy - the usual thing.

It can not be called a tragedy or a comedy, the brief content of the book "A Habitual Business". The presentation of this work, rather, resembles the drama of life, in which people are forced to adapt to everything in order to survive. Searches, theft, drunkenness - everything becomes a habit for them.

Mitka for causing damage to the tractor and for mown hay is summoned to the district militia. But mistakenly 15 days give a completely different Polyakov, although also from Sosnovka. In the village there are many Poles. And Misha is serving his 15 days in his native village under the supervision of the escort, continuing to work for days, and in the evenings to get drunk with the assigned sergeant.

Chapter 5. Departure

He also tells about what makes the peasants leave the village, Belov ("habitual business"). The summary describes how after the searches started Ivan Afrikanovich finds illegal hay and everyone is selected. Mitka begins to persuade him to go to work in the Arctic, leaving everything here. I do not want to let Drinov leave his native places, but Mitka continues to persuade him, and in the end Ivan Afanasyevich agrees.

Drinov goes to the chairman - he must give him a certificate that will allow the collective farmer to get a passport. However, the chairman refuses to issue the document. An angry Drinov threatens that poker, and only then the chairman surrenders.

Ivan Afrikanovich also bids farewell to his wife, he feels sorry for Katerina, he pities her and loves her. Nevertheless, Drinov is leaving. After his departure, Katerina goes to mow alone. And during the mowing, a second blow strikes the woman. As soon as she was brought home, she was far away from the hospital, she would die, she would not survive.

Chapter 5 (continued). Return

It depicts the everyday life of Belov. "A habitual affair" (a summary of the chapters confirms this) - the story is not about some kind of unprecedented sorrows and sorrows, it's just a description of human being.

Returns to his native village Ivan Afrikanovich. Initially, they traded with Mitka onions in the train, but this life was not according to Drinov, and he decided to return.

On his return Ivan Afrikanovich learns that his wife died, and the children were left alone. Learning of this, Drinov falls directly on the road, clasps his head with his hands and slides into the roadside ditch. He's pounding the ground with his fists and gnawing at her.

Chapter 6. The Cow

It is not easy for a hero, who was created by Vasily Belov ("A habitual business"). The summary tells how he had to make a difficult decision - to slaughter a cow, the only wet nurse. But we needed money, and there was nothing to feed her in the winter. Ivan Afrikanovich could not kill her with his own hands, so he asked Mishka. Moving over the giblets of the dead cow, Drinov cries.

Two children, Vaska and Mitka, must be sent to a shelter. Antoshka is sent to the school. Only Marousia and two babies remain in the care of their father.

Chapter 7

That's the end of Belov's short story "A Habitual Business". After the death of Katerina, Drinov does not want to live. Nyushka took care of his children. Once, wandering through the forest, Ivan Afrikanovich lost his way. So he wandered for three days until he found his tractor driver Mishka, who at first thought that his friend was drunk.

Two days later, on the fortieth day of Katerina's death, Drinov sits at her grave and tells her about the children, about how bad he is, asks him to wait for him. Grief bent him, but no one noticed.

So it ends with the depiction of the grave and the description of the grief of the unfortunate person, a brief summary (Belov's "Usual Affair"). According to the chapters, if you read a work, it makes an even stronger impression.

Characteristics of heroes

Let's start with Ivan Afrikanovich. This hero does not initially make a very good impression, but his true nature is gradually revealed. He appears as a man worried about the fate of the village - he did not want to leave, because he believed that his place was in the village. In addition, he is able to sincerely feel - affectionately and gently loves his wife, despite the hard years spent together. Drinov realizes that the arrangement of the life of the village, which exists, is incorrect, it must be changed. This hero and stands out against the backdrop of his fellow villagers who have reconciled with what is happening.

Remarkable and the image of Katerina Drynova. She is a calm, quiet woman, who is used to enduring any hardships and working without rest. She does not spare herself and her health to provide for the family.

Her brother Mitya, on the contrary, is not endowed with the surrender of his sister. He is a man without a family and without his corner. He lives one day and does not think about the future. It was his appearance that led to the death of the Drinov family - the departure of Ivan, the death of Katerina. Ideas and thoughts of Mitka destroyed the habitual way of life of the Drynovs.

Reviews

A lot of positive reviews about the book can be found in our time, in spite of the fact that it was written in the middle of the last century. Thus, the readers note that at first the author is misled by the village language of the narrative and the description of the drunken scenes, but the deep meaning of the story is gradually becoming clear. The work is called a biography, the image of the village is truthful and without embellishment. In general, the work produces a good impression.
