Trimming pears in autumn as a way to increase the yield of wood

Many beginning gardeners do not understand why you need to trim a pear in the fall. Most people think that everything should be left in the care of nature and minimally affect the growth and development of the tree. However, this is not at all the case. If the first couple of years the tree will give beautiful and large fruits, then the third or fourth situation will change dramatically. The pear will become less and less, and their size will also decrease. All this is a consequence of the lack of proper care for the tree, namely the disposal of its crown from excess and dry branches that absorb nutrients, but do not do any good

The correct pruning of the pear begins in the first year after planting it and lasts for several years. The very first such procedure and the formation of the crown is carried out, as well as in the apple tree, in late autumn-winter or early spring before the awakening of the kidneys occurs. However, it should be noted that the pear crown is very well formed by itself and does not require serious intervention from the gardener.

Trimming pears in autumn: pygmy pyramid

So he calls one of the forms of the crown, which is very widely used by almost every professional gardener. At the moment, this is a fairly simple and very effective way to obtain a plentiful harvest. For this, a tree with a central trunk is formed about 3 meters in height and a length of side branches about 1 meter. Pruning is done in such a way that the crown tapers slightly upward, forming a kind of pyramid. This method allows you to plant trees very close to each other and get the highest possible yield on a very limited piece of land.

First year

Immediately, when there is a period of rest, it is necessary to trim an annual pear approximately to half a meter in height. The cut must be made on the kidney opposite to the inoculation. This method allows the tree to form at once 4-5 very strong and healthy shoots, which subsequently form the framework of the pyramid.

Second year

Pruning of pears in autumn is due to the fact that the tree at this time is at rest. At this time, it is necessary to cut the central conductor to 20-25 cm from the base of the growth. The kidney to which the procedure is performed should be on the opposite side from last year's. This is done so that the stem of the plant is more straight. It would be more logical not to cut off the central conductor at all, but then the development of lateral branches would have gone much more slowly. They also need to be subjected to the procedure and shortened to 20-25 cm from the base.

The third year and all subsequent

In all other years, pruning pears in the fall occurs on the same principle. It is necessary to shorten the trunk of the tree every year to the opposite kidney for vertical growth. When the plant reaches the desired height, it is possible to completely cut off the growth of the central conductor. Lateral growth should be removed in the summer when they reach a length of 40-50 cm.

Pruning an old pear is done in the same way. This procedure can not only stimulate the growth of the tree, but also renew its yield. After this procedure, the pear will again be able to give birth to large and tasty fruits, which will be an excellent treat for the whole family.
