The Small Academic Dictionary concretizes the concept, explaining that the adjective points to something that causes an astringent sensation in the mouth. As an example, you can cite the astringency of wine, some berries or very strong tea. In the explanatory dictionary of Vladimir Dal - the word denotes a sour, raw, dull taste. This taste is enjoyed by unripe or wild apples, brine with a leaf of cherry or oak.
