Hazelnut: cultivation of valuable walnut

Walnut hazelnuts, the cultivation of which we will consider in this article, is very tasty and useful, and extremely unpretentious. The wild form of this tree is hazel (hazelnut). It grows in a variety of natural conditions, including on arid or marshy soils, on stony slopes and hills. The cultivated form is just as hardy and prolific.

Hazelnut. Cultivation and planting

The compact shrub reaches a height of three meters, has dark green leaves. Hazelnuts, cultivated in the garden is accessible to any average inhabitant, gives nuts much larger and tasty than wood. A powerful root system helps the plant quickly gain a foothold on the most infertile soil and squeeze out and out of it a maximum. And also quickly begin to bring high yields. Almost all climatic zones favor the cultivation of hazelnuts. The most adaptive are the Crimean varieties. Hazelnut, the cultivation of which is most expedient in Ukraine, yields the most powerful bush and high yield on fertile soils . The variety Trapezund (bred in Crimea) provides a yield of the core up to 60%. Before planting, loosen the soil well, it is possible to add a few buckets of humus to it before digging pits for trees. This will help the plant to develop more intensively and begin to bear fruit more quickly. Make a landing in late autumn - this is the optimal time. In addition to November, February is also suitable. Regardless of the weather, the seedlings should be well watered (up to 5 buckets of water under each bush and covered with sawdust). After 5 days, again, moisten the soil well. In addition to hazelnut beetroot hazelnuts, the cultivation of which is not associated with any difficulties, pests and diseases do not. Sometimes it is necessary to trim, removing excess root shoots, broken and curved shoots. Hazel usually fructifies in the fifth year, and on the sixth gives a more significant harvest. Fruits are collected in the stage of technical ripeness. The plant is pollinated by the wind and does not require the presence of insects. Flowering occurs from December to March, frost flowers are not terrible.

Hazelnut. Cultivation and reproduction

The most difficult thing is propagation by seeds. The other methods (division of the bush, layers, root shoots) are somewhat simpler. As seeds, use the largest nuts, plant them in autumn in a fertilized moist soil. The depth of the hole should not be more than 10 cm. On a boggy and heavy soil, hazelnut will not be easy to ascend. Plant a few nuts at a distance of about 20 cm. Since not all seeds will sprout, it is guaranteed to provide you with seedlings by the spring. Before the onset of frost hazelnut should be regularly watered, and also loosen the soil and fill it with peat (sawdust). Shoots in a favorable combination of circumstances will appear in April. By the next spring the seedlings can already be transplanted to a permanent place. Three-year-old plants can be propagated by root shoots. They should be transplanted with a clod of earth and well watered. The filings of hazelnut are bent to the ground in early spring and, having laid in prepared grooves, are fixed.
