Lavender is a frost-resistant evergreen shrub of the family Gubotsvetnye. It has almost twenty-five different subspecies. The native land of this fragrant perennial plant is India, the Canary Islands, and also the Mediterranean.

Small flowers of lavender are usually located at the end of the branches. They are collected in spiked violet or lilac inflorescences.

In addition to delicate beauty, the plant exudes an inimitable aroma from the oil flowers located at the very base of the oil glands, which produce essential oil.

In addition, her essential oil has a calming and spasmolytic effect, and flowers help to cope with insomnia, fatigue and nervous condition. Some believe that this decorative fragrant room resident is able to create a particularly comfortable microclimate, so most often lavender at home is grown in the bedroom or in the nursery, guarding the peace and comfort of the inhabitants. Especially because the plant does not require too painstaking and careful care.

It is only necessary to take into account that this southern guest develops its aroma only under the sun, therefore it is impossible to place it in the shade. However, the flower grows well and with artificial additional lighting, received at least ten hours a day.

Lavender at home is not demanding on the soil. The most optimal is considered to be the flower base purchased in the store with the addition of a small amount of rubble. Plant the plant in a pot with good drainage - expanded clay, small shards or coarse sand.

The plant multiplies by seeds, which only grow at low temperatures. Lavender at home grows long enough, sometimes the first seedlings appear only after two months. Therefore, to have shoots by spring, seeds should be planted at the end of November.
