The preparation "Ipratropium bromide"

Today, such a medical preparation as "Ipratropiumbromide" ("Ipratropium bromide") enjoys considerable popularity.

This drug is a bronchodilator. It is used to treat respiratory diseases associated with emphysema and bronchitis. It also effectively prevents bronchial spasms, which are associated with the influence of vagus nerves. Eliminates the narrowing of the bronchi, which can occur, for example, as a result of inhalation of cold air, cigarette or some other smoke, as well as under the influence of all kinds of bronchoconstrictor substances. Such substances cause a narrowing of the lumen of the bronchi.

The drug "Ipratropium bromide" lowers the secretion of glands, including nasal, bronchial (with intranasal use) and digestive.

It should be noted that the drug is an ideal choice for chronic obstructive bronchitis due to the following indices:

- the greatest systemic safety in comparison with other groups of bronchodilators;

- high efficiency (much superior to that of other groups of bronchodilators);

- in the elderly, preserves the sensitivity of bronchial receptors to M-cholinolytic agents;

- with prolonged admission, there is no tachyphylaxis (it is observed only in exceptional cases).

The medicine "Ipratropium bromide" (in the form of inhalation) has an effect in 5-15 minutes. The maximum effect is observed after 1-2 hours. The effect lasts for 2 hours, then gradually weakens.

The drug "Ipratropium bromide". Instruction: indications

1. Prevention and treatment of chronic obstructive airways diseases, i.e. Diseases of the lungs with a sharp decrease in the lumen of the bronchi.

2. Chronic obstructive bronchitis, i.e. Inflammation of the bronchi, which is combined with a violation of air patency. Such bronchitis can be with or without emphysema.

3. Bronchial asthma. Especially if asthma is accompanied by various diseases of the heart and blood vessels.

4. Surgical operations or bronchospasm.

Dosed aerosol

Contraindication to the use of the drug - exacerbated sensitivity to ipratropium bromide. It is important to note that this drug is not recommended to prescribe to children under 6 years old, as well as in the first trimester of pregnancy. Caution should also be observed with patients suffering from occlusive glaucoma, a violation of the patency of the urinary tract due to the increase in the volume of the prostate gland.

After taking the drug, the following side effects may occur:

- in case of contact with eyes, a visual impairment;

- Increased sputum viscosity or dry mouth;

- in patients with closed-angle glaucoma - increased intraocular pressure.

- when using aerosol intranasal - allergic reaction, dryness in the nose.

Also, special attention should be given to the drug "Fenoterol ipratropium bromide". This is a combination drug containing ipratropium bromide and fenoterol hydrobromite.

This medication has a bronchodilator effect.

Indications for use:

- maintenance therapy for bronchopulmonary diseases;

- prevention of respiratory failure;

- treatment and prevention of acute attacks of asthma arising from bronchial asthma.

Side effects

After applying this drug, dry mouth, tachycardia, finger tremors, glaucoma, accommodation disorder, or difficulty urinating may occur. It should be noted that the drug "Ipratropium bromide" with caution prescribed for the transfer of myocardial infarction, hyperthyroidism, diabetes mellitus, as well as in severe diseases of the cardiovascular system.
