The population of the world. Interesting facts and figures

The population of the world ... What associations arise in everyone who has heard this phrase? Huge Globe - how many of us on it? Who is more: men or women? What is the average life expectancy of a person? How many earthlings are born and die per day? And a year?

We are all people living on this planet. Having given some questions a little more attention, you can discover amazing information. Did you know that every 0.24 seconds on our planet another baby is born, and for an hour the world population is replenished by more than 15 thousand newborns. And almost every minute (0.56 seconds) a person dies, and at an hour our world loses nearly 6.5 thousand people.

Life expectancy is a separate topic. Ancient man was considered a long-liver, if he lived to 35 years. Thanks to the improvement of the standard of living and the achievements of medicine, only in 1950 the average indicator was 46 years, and by 1990 - 62.

In today's Japan and Scandinavian countries, men live on average 80 years, women - 75, but the population of the poorest countries in Africa and Asia is unlikely ever to be able to boast of such an age: 47 years - this is the average life expectancy. And Sierra Leone, unfortunately, with a duration of 35 years and did stay at the level of many centuries ago.

The world population today amounts to about 7.091 billion. Women and men are approximately equally divided: 3.576 billion male representatives and 3.515 billion people are ladies of all ages. The male population prevails, but in Russia everything is the opposite: for 1130 women there are 1000 men, which is 53% and 47% respectively.

People unevenly occupied the space of the globe. This is understandable, because on 149 million square meters. Km. Land accounts for about 16 million square meters. Km. Unfit for life glaciers, uninhabited deserts and hard-to-reach highlands. And how the world's population arrived with the remaining 133 million square meters. Km.? Some areas are inhabited with a huge density, and on some part there is not a single human soul.

Half of the inhabitants of the globe live in cities. Incidentally, not so long ago, at the beginning of the 19th century, no settlement could boast of a population of 1 million. But by the middle of the 20th century, cities with a population of five million had become eight, and by 2000 almost two dozen cities had become megacities with a number of Residents more than 10 (!) Million

The most populated cities in the world, included in the top five, are Shanghai (Japan), Istanbul (Turkey), Mumbai (India), Tokyo (Japan), Karachi (Pakistan). Huge "hives" in which live, work, amuse, born and die many millions of representatives of humanity, this is Mexico City, Bombay, Buenos Aires, Dhaka. What to do, people tend to live in capitals, because there are more opportunities for self-realization and earnings.

Many know that the Chinese government has set itself the goal of reducing the birth rate, reducing the "allowed" number of children to a minimum: one family - one child. Violators, who had a second child, were fined, they were threatened with eviction to remote areas and other penalties. In overpopulated India it is desirable to have no more than two children. And all because the population of the countries of the world, or rather, the number of people living in each of them, is significantly different from each other. And the leading positions in this list belong precisely to the aforementioned China and India. The difference is significant: the population of China is 1.3 billion, India is almost 1.2 billion, and the third largest US is 310 million. The vast Russia with its "modest" almost 142 million people is only in the ninth place . Close the list of Tuvalu - it has 10 thousand, and the Vatican - 800 (!) People.
