In his first season, the young central midfielder spent only seven games, scoring his first goal. But already from the second season he recognized the talent, and Joey Barton spent four successful years at the heart of Manchester City. He entered the field 153 times, scoring 17 goals.

Why did he leave the club? Barton himself reported that he simply did not find a common language with the coach, but in fact the reason was that in his last year he attacked a black teammate and beat him, and then left him to lie unconscious. As a result, Barton was convicted, he was given a suspended sentence and 200 hours of public works, as well as a fine, which was sent to the victim. Naturally, the club "Manchester City" did not want to have anything to do with this player, so in the summer of 2007 he was sold to Newcastle for 9 million euros.

Transfer to Newcastle

The bosses of Newcastle would know what they spend such money on. Quite soon after the transition to the new club, Barton again attacked a man and as a result admitted that he was an alcoholic. As a result, his conditional term became real, and he had to spend several months in prison, while trying to get rid of alcohol dependence. However, his contract with the club Joey Barton, a footballer with great talent, despite all his antics, worked out to the end as he could - through all removals from the field, disqualifications and even imprisonment.
