Correct dressing of fox skins at home

Each hunter sooner or later asks the question: "How to make a fox skin." After all, the fox is the most common animal in our forests. Out of fox fur, there are fine winter clothes and accessories, so a well-made skin is quite expensive. There are different recipes for fox skins, in this article you will learn the most effective and budget.

Remove the skin from the animal

When the hunt is over, and in the hands of the hunter, a pair of carcasses of foxes, it's time to think about how and when to remove the skin. In the fox, only her fur is valuable, so it is preferable to refresh it in the forest. Of course, if you are holding the killed animal for the first time, you'd better delay processing it until you come home, otherwise you risk spending a lot of time.

It is important not to damage the skin, and leave whole paws, head and tail, so remove it by a method called "tube".

So, how to skin a fox?

  • Put the dead fox on your back and spread out its hind legs and front legs.
  • Make an incision from the beginning of the fingers of one hind paw to the beginning of the fingers of the other, crossing the anus.
  • Slice the carcass from the tip of the tail to the intersection with the notch between the legs.
  • Cut the skin on the front paws from the elbow to the base of the toes.
  • Gently pinning your fingers between the skin and fox meat, and pruning the tendons, slowly remove the skin to the head. Especially be careful in the abdomen, where the skin is particularly delicate.
  • Go to the head, pull the skin to the ears and cut the cartilage at the base, cut the eyelids and pull the skin down to the very nose, to finally separate the skin from the carcass, cut the inside of the nose from the inside so that it remains the skin. Remove ear cartilage.

It is important to get fur without any holes, and not how to remove the skin from the fox. But if in the process of freshening you still made flaws, sew them.

Rub the skin with a large salt and let dry for two days.

Soaking

To make it easier to degrease the skin, after it dries it needs to be soaked for a while in a special solution. Dressing fox skins at home is a bit different from the industrial one. To produce a good soaking material, you will need fairly simple components.

  • Water.
  • Vinegar essence (90% vinegar).
  • Salt.
  • Dishwashing liquid.
  • Furacil.
  • Capacity for soaking.

Treatment of fox skin during soaking occurs as follows:

In a fairly large container, you need to prepare a solution based on a liter of water with a temperature of about 25 degrees: 1 tbsp. L. Salt (stir until completely dissolved), mix with 1 tsp. Detergent, incomplete tablespoon of acetic essence and two tablets of furatsilina.

Place skins in a container with a solution. For the first two hours every fifteen minutes, the contents of the container should be stirred with a stick with a rounded end, so as not to puncture the skin and not to damage the fur (if the capacity is small, the pincers for cooking laundry are fine). Then the skins are enough to stir every three hours. The optimum soaking time is 12 hours. The degree of readiness is judged on the head and paws. Ready-made skins are soft, as if they were only separated from the body. And if after 12 hours the soaked skins are not ready, the solution is drained, continuing soaking in a freshly prepared mixture.

Wash

Since the fox is not the cleanest animal, after soaking, the dressing of fox skins at home requires washing. Washing not only removes dirt and dead parasites from the fur and skin, but also slightly degreases the fabrics, which significantly facilitates the subsequent smearing, relieves the skin of an unpleasant smell. Ideally, you need to wash both before and after.

To wash the fox skin, the laundry soap is best suited , but some use detergent.

In a lot of cool water, beat the soap into a thick foam, rinse the carcass thoroughly and leave it to soak for twenty minutes, then rinse it in clean cool water.

Mezdrenie

Dressing the fox skin requires obligatory fleshing. Mezdrenie is the cleansing of the skin from the remaining subcutaneous fat and meat. After the correct cleansing from the fat, the skins become soft from inside, soft and pleasant to the touch.

The process of furrowing requires a lot of experience and concentration, so when asking the question, "where to make a fox skin?", You should try to find a person familiar with this process who can control your first job. Treat this stage of work most responsibly, since it is during the mucus that the skins most often spoil. Each beast has its own skin thickness, and it is necessary to clean it from fat and meat with varying intensity and pressure, slightly overdo it - and all the fur will fall out. Who needs a fox without fur?

For felting at home, it is best to use a convex wooden board, stretching the skin over it. In the absence of such, this stage can be done on his own knees, wearing old clothes and covering himself with oilcloth.

When fusing from the inside of the hide with a blunt knife, inclined at an angle of 45 degrees, scrape films, grease and meat. And do it only in the direction from the tail to the head, otherwise you leave unnecessary incisions on the skin. With a well-soaked fox, fat should be removed with ease, if it is not, repeat the soaking process.

Quenching or pickering?

Both quenching and pickling are very important stages, without which no dressing of fox skins at home is necessary. These processes change the structure of the protein, due to which the skins become soft and supple, perfectly stretch and do not tear.

It is believed that souring better affects the quality of the skin than the pickling. Indeed, living bacteria act on tissues more sparingly. But because of its high cost and unbearable smell in the home dressing, this method is used infrequently. In addition, this option for dressing the skins is longer.

The recipe for sour is:

For two liters of warm (not hot !!!) water takes 0.5 kg of coarse grated oatmeal or rye flour, 60. Salt, 15 g of dry yeast and 1 g of soda. The skin is laid in a cool mixture and left to suck for 48 hours. Periodically, the solution must be stirred.

Pickering, though considered a less qualitative way of processing skins, has a number of advantages. For example, in a solution of chemical acids, the skin comes ready much quicker, an unpleasant odor is absent. So the choice is yours.

For pickling, mix 2 liters of water with 100 ml of acetic essence and 2 tbsp. L. Salt. In such a solution the skin should lie not more than a day, although usually it takes seven hours.

Checking the readiness of pelts

Check the skin on readiness in several ways.

  • Sample "pinch".

From the bottom of the belly of a fox tore a few hairs, if they separate easily, the skin is ready.

  • The sample is a "dryer".

Bend several times the skin, if the imprint remains on the skin, it is ready.

  • Separate the strip of the top layer of the skin.

If the piece has separated easily, then the skin can be removed.

After pickering, to neutralize the acid, the skin is placed for half an hour in a solution of soda (1 gram of water you need 1 gram of soda). Then it is left to dry under the yoke during the day.

Next, the skins should be dried on the rules. Constantly changing its position (with fur inside and fur out).

Tanning

For fox skin tanning is necessary. It will help protect clothing from fox from external adverse factors.

There are many recipes for how to make a fox skin (tan). Here are two of them.

  • A large saucepan to the top bury willow bark, pour water and boil for about 40 minutes. Then drain the broth and add salt there (st.l of salt per 1 liter of broth).

Finished the cooled solution several times with a brush or sponge on the skin of the skin. Collapse the skin with the skin outward and leave to dry.

  • For 1 liter of warm water you need to take: 2 tbsp. L. Salt, tanning agent, mixed with water, (according to the instructions) 1 tsp. And hyposulfite 1 tsp. Load the skins in a container with a tannin composition and leave for a day.

Drying

Dressing fox skins at home is a tedious task. From drying, the plasticity of the skins will depend. Dry the skins on the rules, constantly removing it and stretching it in different directions. When the skin becomes white and tender, the skin can be left to dry out, and after it is processed with fine-grained sandpaper.

Fatting

To ensure that the skin is not too dry, it will have to be lived. On a liter of water, take 100 grams of soap, 1 kg. Fish or pork fat, and 20 grams of ammonia. Wipe this mixture with a merezled, and let it dry for a couple of hours.

Everything, the skin is ready!
