The most famous stories about the victims of the Everest

Every time, climbing to the top, the mountaineer risks his own life. Having climbed to the peak and felt himself to be the king of the world, he is only doing half the battle. Now he has to overcome the same path back. Paradoxically, but the descents sometimes conceal even more danger in themselves.

"Green shoes"

Climbing to the highest peak of the globe is a dream for every extreme. And it does not matter in which account he is going to conquer Everest. Terrible weather conditions and rarefied air at an altitude of several thousand meters make it difficult to climb. Despite the fact that the alpinists work in a team, it happens that their ways can disperse. In one of the caves on the popular northern slope, located at an altitude of more than 8 thousand meters, the Indian mountaineer Tzevan Paljor remained forever. For 20 years now it has been lying on its side under the protection of steep rocks. The legs of the climber are stretched, which makes the new conquerors of Everest step over the famous green neon shoes.

The number of dead, forever remaining at the most famous peak of the world, goes off scale. In addition, the conquerors see their bodies with their own eyes. But this does not stop them in striving to achieve the desired goal. It seems they are ready to accept any outcome ...

The Last Haven

Climbers are not bored in the land. Most of them, like Tzvan Paljor, rest directly on the mountain. However, he became the most famous victim of Everest thanks to his green shoes. Soon this phrase became a household word.

About 80% of climbers rest before a decisive jerk in the limestone niche on the northern slope. It's hard not to notice the person lying there. Each climber at least once heard of him, saw him or read about "green shoes".

Wave of rumors

The death of Paljor gave birth to a whole heap of rumors. There is no reliable information about how the ascent of a small Indian group that tried to conquer Everest along the northeastern route was taking place. There is no evidence that Paljor, with his two companions, really reached the summit. Some experts suggest that due to a heavy snow storm and poor visibility this group lost its way and did not reach a peak of about 500 meters. On this day, Everest on another route was conquered by another, more famous and numerous expedition. We do not know if Paljor sent signals for help to his comrades, or their plight was simply ignored.

The most important question

This extreme sport attracts the eyes of writers, publicists and film authors. All those who are not subject to the mountain element, try to draw in their minds the episodes in which the human body and mind are placed in the hardest conditions. How do ethics and morals change under such conditions? However, the most important and intriguing question, which each of the authors asks themselves numerous times, is the following: why is this all, in fact, necessary? Why are these brave daredevils playing with death on the steep slopes of Mount Everest?

Alan Arnett, an alpinist from Colorado, maintains his own independent statistics. According to his records, on the slopes of the greatest mountain of the planet from 1924 to 2015, 283 people died, 170 of whom are not citizens of Nepal. As a percentage, the number of victims is 4% of the total number of climbers who have ever stormed the summit.

Prehistory from the mouth of the mother of the deceased

Tzevan Paljor was the eldest son in the family. Probably, he felt responsible for providing his family, who led a subsistence economy and barely made ends meet. The young man even dropped out of school after grade 10, because he was promised a place in the Indo-Tibetan border police. Employees of this armed organization are not by hearsay familiar with the extreme height.

Mother supported the son's desire to strengthen his position in the organization. The only thing she did not agree with was climbing Mount Everest. Therefore, when Paljora was chosen to join the elite group of climbers, he did not tell the mother the whole truth. Rising to the top, he, first of all, thought about the family and about the benefits this climb can bring to his relatives.

Common causes of death

The Indian mountaineer was young, strong and already experienced enough. However, he first encountered the conditions of extreme weather and inhuman loads. Even the most brave daredevils do not quite imagine what awaits them ahead. Physicians talk about sudden cardiac arrest, stroke, heart rhythm disturbances, asthma, partial blindness and other ailments suddenly fallen on healthy people. A common cause of death is pulmonary edema due to lack of oxygen. For the same reason, there are swelling of the brain.

Loss of concentration

However, even if climbers are lucky enough to avoid medical complications, they should not relax. A researcher from Massachusetts Paul Firth discovered that most of the deaths occur at low altitudes, at a time when the lucky climber returns from the conquered summit. Euphoria interferes with concentration, many extremals lose their vigilance, falling into the trap of ice breaks and cracks.

Among those who die on the hill, mostly paid tourists who disobeyed his instructor. In conditions of hypoxia and an irresistible desire to conquer the summit, an inadequate perception of safety develops. Some climb without additional oxygen. The instructor can say to the climber-lover: "You go too slowly, you have a chance to turn around and save your own life." However, some people do not. It turns out that not the mountains kill mountaineers, they often sign themselves a death sentence because of their own stupidity.
