A journalist is not just a profession, it's a vocation

In today's world, when everyone polls himself to be the most intelligent and knowledgeable in public, political, educational issues, being a journalist is quite difficult. But journalism was and always will be necessary.

A look into the past

At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, Russian journalism, although it existed, was not yet firmly established.

However, even at that time there were people who forever entered their name in journalistic history. I would like to note that basically they were not trained specialists, but so-called proletarians in white collars. Among the first masters of fast, capacious and accurate words were writers and writers. Only a few of them were engaged exclusively in journalistic work. Unfortunately, it is their names that have sunk into oblivion of obscurity.

Among the first journalists of the investigative genre is the Russian writer Vladimir Galaktionovich Korolenko.

Vladimir Galaktionovich found his vocation in journalism in the last decades of the 19th century. The most striking of his materials can be attributed to the category of investigations in the sphere of social and domestic crimes. One of the most topical is the "Multan Votyakov Affair". It can be said that without the participation of Korolenko, without his scrupulous study of all the facts of the case, innocent people would be convicted for the murder. Investigating the truth, Vladimir Galaktionovich made research, which resulted in numerous articles, notes, letters and speeches.

Journalistic activities Korolenko is the brightest example of a worthy embodiment of a media worker.

Unfortunately, not all members of this profession can be proud of. This is explained simply: journalists are characterized by distortion of facts, incorrect submission of information, its untruthfulness. That is why it is important for the profession to thoroughly study the problem.

The role of journalist

What is the role of a modern journalist? What contribution does he make to society? What is its main goal? And what dangers, opportunities conceals in itself one of the most ancient professions?

A journalist is not just a writer who must objectively cover the realities of modern life. The main criteria are reliability and impartiality. And all because the journalist is a kind of guide, bringing the collected verified information to the public. This is a philosopher who is capable, neglecting his own ambitions, to tell the truth to people. A journalist is a creator who not only conveys his thoughts to the minds of people by his works, but also makes them think about the materiality of the problem raised.

What traits should a journalist have?

A journalist profession requires a person to have an opponent to him, while gently digging out the necessary information from him. He should not be deprived of intelligence and ingenuity, to get to the heart of the matter without delay. He should be aware of what is happening. In addition, he must be morally and physically ready for working days, which sometimes do not fit into any time frame.

A journalist is not just a profession, it is a vocation that makes it possible for every person not to travel to the planet anywhere in the world, just after opening a printed publication or watching a television report. Spectators and readers, thanks to journalists, are indirectly acquainted with interesting and unordinary people.

Day of Remembrance of Dead Journalists

The profession of a journalist is fraught with many secrets and dangers. Forming a public view of the world, correspondents and reporters often put themselves under attack ...

And this blow is not always moral and emotional. There are cases when, fulfilling their professional duty, journalists died.

In 1991, the Union of Journalists of Russia decided that December 15 will be the Day of Remembrance of those killed in the performance of the professional duty of journalists. It was established in order to remind you how difficult and dangerous the work of media employees is.

The Committee to Protect Journalists on data for 2013 called Russia one of the most dangerous countries for reporters. They also include Syria, Iraq, Pakistan, Somalia, India, Brazil, the Philippines.

Statistics on the number of deaths, cited by the International Federation of Journalists and the International Institute of Security, say that Russian journalists are killed in the service more often than others.

In 2014, INSI (International Institute for the Safety of Journalists) ranked among the countries mentioned above and Ukraine. Ivan Šimonović, UN Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights, said that it is also the same as in 2015. He noted that the problem of journalists' safety has improved. However, mass media workers are still in great danger.

Why do media workers die?

The UN Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights noted that approximately 50% of deaths occur in the conflict zone. That is, the reason lies in the military actions taken by the parties. However, he also named another source of tragic outcomes: increased propaganda in the media.

In support of the first reason, we can name an accident that occurred in the spring of 2015 near the village of Shirokoe, Donetsk region. Andrei Lunev, a correspondent for the Zvezda television channel, suffered numerous injuries to the neck, chest, head and legs as a result of a blast on a grenade.

The second reason, propaganda, according to Šimonović, is confirmed by the murder of Olesia Buzina. Correspondent of the electronic version of the Russian newspaper Dmitry Sosnovsky described the Ukrainian writer and journalist:

It is believed that he was shot because of his political views.

Who is he - Andrei Lunev: a victim or an executioner?

On the website of Radio Liberty on April 14, 2015, information appeared that shocked the public. The candidate of sciences, teacher, volunteer Sergei Gakov asserted that Andrei Lunev was not blown up by accident ... And he is far from being a victim, as everyone sees him, but part of the mechanism, which includes people mocking prisoners. And Sergei Gakov believes that the footage shot by a correspondent, even propaganda is difficult to name. This is an outright lie.

Honoring the memory of the dead

In Rostov-on-Don, sculptor Karen Parsamyan demonstrated to the audience a song whose heroes were dead journalists.

The sculpture includes 4 heroes who died in Ukraine.

The creation of the author's composition was inspired by journalists of Russia who died in the performance of their professional duty. They were Igor Kornelyuk and Anton Voloshin, VGTRK employees killed during the mortar shelling of the Lugansk region in June 2014, Anatoly Klyan, the operator of Channel One, who was fatally wounded in the stomach, heading for one of the military units, Andrei Stenin, a photo correspondent, "Russia Today ", Shot and burned in a car in the south-east of Ukraine.
